There are upwards of 350 Koh Chang hotels, resorts and bungalows, so trying to work out where  to stay can seem a thankless task.

Well, worry not, as we have done all the homework for you and filtered it all down into much more manageable lists. Whatever your holiday budget, family, couple, a group of friends or a solo traveller, there will be something that suits your needs. 

Here’s some to get you started, updated in June 24 for 24/25 season.

Luxury Resorts and Hotels

At that luxury end, prices range from 4,000bt right up to 20,000bt or more for the deluxe pool villas – look out for KC Grande (White Sand Beach), Koh Chang Paradise (Chai Chet), Santhiya Tree, Dewa and Dinso Resort (opening late 2024, the former Emerald Cove) – all in Klong Prao Beach or Awa, The Chill, The Retreat, Gajapuri and Sylvan, all in Kai Bae Beach.

Mid Range Resorts

Mid range choices include Kacha, Chang Buri, Koh Chang Grand View (White Sand Beach), Flora I Talay (Chai Chet), Annika, Klong Prao Resort, Aana, Barali Beach, The Splash (Klong Prao Beach), Kai Bae Beach Resort, KB Resort, Kai Bae Grand View, Mam Kai Bae (all in Kai Bae), Mercure Hideaway (Bailan) and Bhuvarin (Bang Bao), Peninsula, Shambala Beach Resort, Aiyapura (Klong Son), Parama (Chek Bae, south east coast) where prices come in a bit cheaper around 1,900bt but do rise right up  to 12,000bt for suites.

Boutique

For boutique resorts, expect to pay in the region of 2,500bt to 9,950bt with our top tips including Chivapuri (Bang Bao Beach), Vayna Boutique (Klong Prao Beach), Nest Sense (Lonely Beach), Little Sunshine (Klong Son), Amber Sands (east coast) and Spa Koh Chang (Salak Khok, south east coast).

Villas

There are plenty of rental villas on Koh Chang too – Blue Haven Bay in Klong Son is the main focus, but there’s another development over on the east coast at Baan Talay Thai and you’ll find them on other beaches, Pearl Beach in particular.

Bungalows and Guesthouses

For the backpacker/flashpacker or independent traveller, you can find guesthouse rooms as low as 250bt to 450bt for dorm rooms, bit more for a single fan, shared bathroom, cold shower or 650bt to 700bt and all the way up to 4,000bt for fan or a/c ensuite bungalows.

Hostels and dorms hit the Koh Chang accommodation scene a few years back but did suffer from the downturn due to Covid. Places still up and running include Pajamas, Habitat (Chai Chet) and Cafe del Sunshine, Slumber Party (Lonely Beach).

White Sand Beach (North) – Koh Chang Hotels

White Sand Beach plays host to one of the best Koh Chang hotels at KC Grande Resort, with 5 different pools and accommodation both beachside and hillside – deluxe hillside rooms at 4,350bt, pool villas from 9,980bt.

Look out too for the 3/4 star Kacha, also on both sides of the main street, with its prices ranging from 2,700bt to 5,500bt or the small 35 room hotel The Erawan (with rooftop swimming pool) at 3,800bt a night.

Mid Range

For where to to stay in mid range accommodation, the larger resorts include Koh Chang Lagoon Resort, Cookies Hotel and Banpu Resort, where rates start at 1,600bt through to 3,750bt for family suites. All have decent pools as well as beachside options. 15 Palms sits in amongst them, a much smaller resort, with rates from 3,500bt.

Further along the beachfront heading south, prices per night start at 1,500bt upwards at the boutique hotel Du TalayApple Beachfront, Bamboo and Alina Hotel (slightly cheaper).

Budget Tips

Alongside them, you’ll also find plenty of cheaper accommodation , where you pick up bungalows or rooms rates in the 1,500bt to 2,500bt range – White Sand Beach Resort, Jinda, Arunee and Sai Khao Inn to name just a few.

The main backpacker and traveller area is down on the sand at the northern end, with cheap rooms built into the hillside from as low as 500bt at places like Independent Bo and Maylamean. Or similarly priced, you’ll find another set down the inland street by Kacha  –  Tuk Tuk, Fisherman Hut and Island Lodge. Sabai Guesthouse, by the beach access walkway at the southern end, offer rooms from 700bt to 900bt.

 

White Sand Beach (South)

Chang Buri Resort and Koh Chang Grand View Resort are the stand-out Koh Chang resorts at the southern end of White Sand Beach. With rooms and swimming pools on both sides of the road, Chang Buri has hillside options from 1,900bt for standard to 4,000bt for the pool villas by the sea. Koh Chang Grand View Resort, is more expensive, with standard room at 4,450bt and an oceanfront villa at 7,900bt.

Mid Range

Keeree ele Hotel offers a Bangkok style, its options at 1,200bt through 1,400bt a night, with Sea Sun, another small hotel choice, immediately next door in the same range.

Other mid-range resorts include the swiss owned Plaloma Resort, the German owned Top Resort and at the far end, Para Resort. Expect room prices from 1,500bt for doubles to 4,000bt for family.

Budget Tips

For backpackers, try Koh Chang Hut Hotel, where you can pick up rooms from as low as 500bt a night.

Please note that all of the hotels and resorts at this end of White Sand are not on the beach – it’s a few minutes walk to the north.

Klong Prao Beach – Where to Stay

Klong Prao Beach plays host to three of Koh Chang’s luxury resorts and hotels – The DewaSanthiya Tree and coming soon, Dinso Resort and Villas (the old Emerald Cove). Assume well appointed rooms, slick service, feature swimming pools and spas as standard. Prices start in the region of 5,500bt for a deluxe whilst the top end pool villas may go from 10,000bt to 13,800bt.

Of course, it’s not just high-end on offer and there are some excellent large, mid range resorts where prices range from 2,300bt to 8,500bt and more  – look out for Centara Tropicana, Aana Resort, Barali Beach, The Splash and Vayna Boutique or 3 star Klong Prao Resort and Annika (formerly Ramayana).  Sol Beach too is new in July 24, stylish cabanas on the sand from 4,000bt  a night, just down from Klong Prao Resort.

Bungalows, Small Hotels and Guesthouses

For guesthouses, the northern canal is home to two good value choices – Baan Rim Nam with renovated accommodation from from 1,500bt upwards (not available 1/12/24 to 31/3/25) and next door, the 5 rooms at Watercolours, 2,400bt a night.

For bungalows at this end, Tropical Paradise, has a selection just back from the road at 1,400bt, whilst down on the sand, Tiger Huts is the budget choice, simple fan or a/c rooms at 800bt upwards.

You can find a slew of cheap bungalows on the street leading to the southern canal – Thong Dee, Baan Klong Gog and Sabaidee Resort, all at around 1,000bt a night. At the end of this same street, Blue Lagoon is back up and running after the pandemic, a wide selection of rooms directly on the klong, a similar starting price.

In the same central area, the small hotel, The Gallery (1,500bt to 2,000bt) or next door, the bungalows of Iyara Boty (1,500bt) give you yet more options. Just around the back from them, Papaya Cottage offers rooms at 1,300bt to 1,500bt, no pool but within easy reach of the beach.

Further south still, Boonya, in its own little back area off the main street, combines 990bt rooms with 2,800bt bungalows and pool. Roadside, Jungle View is more traveller style, 900bt and finally at the very end, Chokdee Resort sits by the sea, cheap backpacker style fan rooms or and a/c bungalows – 450bt to 1,000bt or more.

Kai Bae Beach  – Where to Stay

Kai Bae Beach boasts a number of fabulous top end resorts.

Awa Resort, The Chill, Gajapuri Resort – all in a row on the sea, sir right in the middle of town. Their rooms come in at 4,500bt at the lower end of the scale, but go up to 17,500bt for the deluxe beachfront suites and pool villas.

Just along from them, The Retreat (sister resort to The Chill) offers both deluxe and pool access rooms, prices starting at 9,600bt a night.

At the southern end, also in that same luxury category, Sylvan (formerly Seaview) remains very popular after all these years – superior hotel rooms from 4,500bt, some of the best pool villas on the island at 14,000bt.  

Mid Range

That beachside southern end is home to some excellent mid range resorts as well  – KB Resort, Kai Bae Beach Resort, Kai Bae Grande View, Mam Kai Bae, Sea Escape and Siam Bay – expect prices in the 1,700bt to 6,000bt (family suites, pool villas).

Back up on the high street at that same end, you could also try Paradise Bungalows and Sea Breeze, where rooms or bungalows range from 800bt to 1,500bt. Garden Resort, set just back from the road, has a small pool too, 2,850bt a night.

The long established, Coral Resort, down by the sea in the middle of town,  offers standard bungalows from 1,000bt, with a great pool too.

Budget Tips

For where to stay if on a budget, you could try Patoo with its little cabins by the sea, 900bt a night for a/c, cheaper for fan or guesthouses like Lemon and Blues. The dorm accommodation as well as other rooms at Duckling are also worth a look.

Lonely Beach

If you are looking for where to stay when travelling on a budget, Lonely Beach, the island’s backpackers’ centre, has a range of where to cheap rooms and the some dorm style accommodation. Expect shared bathroom and paper thin walls at the cheapest end of the scale with prices starting as low as the 250bt to 400bt range – Cafe del Sunshine, Slumber Party, Blue Sky and Thale the pick of the bunch.

Bungalows

Of course, there are plenty of smaller, very good bungalow resorts, some with small swimming pools. Look out for the following – , Warapura Resort, Oasis Bungalows (with pool), Little Eden, Sea Flower, Navagio (with pool), Carpe Diem (with pool), Lonely Beach Pool Resort (with pool), Magic Garden, Paradise Cottage (with pool) prices from 500bt to 3,000bt.

On the Beach

For those seeking more comfort, the larger 3 star resorts, Bhumiyama Beach Resort and Siam Beach Resort have prime locations on the beach –  with rooms from 2,500bt to 4,800bt at the former and 2,900bt up to 6,600bt for a pool villa at the latter.

In amongst them,  the excellent Nature Beach Resort, over 22 years established, offers a pool, fabulous beachside restaurant, cabins and bungalows from 1,700bt to 3,000bt.

Boutique Resort

Lonely Beach is also home to a great boutique resort, Nest Sense, which sits at the far southern end of the village – deluxe room at the back at 3,300bt rising to 9,000bt for a seaview pool villa or 9,750bt for a seafront one. From here, it’s 10 to 15 minutes walk to the actual beach.  

Chai Chet – Where to Stay

Not surprisingly, the lovely beach at Chai Chet gives you some great choices of where to stay, with its blend of larger resorts, boutique and budget accommodation.

Resorts

On the sand, the highly recommended Paradise Resort and Spa, is the stand-out, with bungalows starting at 4,000bt, pool villas at 14,900bt. Its sister hotel Paradise Hill sits across the road, room from 2,800bt. The two resorts share a water park. Further along the beach, the excellent boutique Flora i Talay, offers cabanas at 2,500bt at the back, garden view at 4,500bt to 5,500bt, beachfront at 8,300bt and the couple of pool villas at 17,300bt.

Also on the sand, Coconut Beach Resort is a solid 2 star resort, very popular with eastern Europeans and agencies, rooms from 1,600bt. Chai Chet Resort on the cape starts at a similar price, 2,000bt to 4,000bt.

Bungalows and Motels

Not the beach and therefore cheaper places to stay,  you’ll find bungalow resorts and the odd motel either roadside at the northern end or around the central Neighbor. Look out for Kerdmanee, Koh Chang Thai Hill Resort, Baan Fine Times and Blue Resort. Prices start at 750bt a night upwards. 

Budget

For travellers, one of Koh Chang’s best hostels, Pajamas, combines dorm beds (580bt a bunk) with more expensive private rooms and a swimming pool. It’s located just behind Flora so 2 minutes from the sea.

Located at the top end of Neighbor, Habitat Hostel has dorm beds and bunks from 450bt a night. Like Pajamas, it too offers private rooms from 1,200bt.


Koh Chang Map

Bang Bao Beach with Hat Sai Noi

Bang Bao Beach also throws a few great Koh Chang accommodation choices into the mix via its peaceful resorts and its backpacker accommodation.

Chaipura Resort, by the bridge at the start of the beach, comprises large houses with wooden interiors, 2,700bt a night, two minutes walk to the sea.  At the far southern end on the sand itself, the top boutique Chivapuri Resort offers huge Lanna villas starting at 4,000bt right up to 10,000bt for the family villa. Next door, Tropical Beach Resort has charming cabanas dotted around from 2,500bt at the back to 3,600bt on the sea.

Bungalows and Budget Tips

In contrast, about mid way along the beach, Klong Kloi Cottage offers a range of choices including simple huts from 450bt. The bungalows at its neighbour Bang Bao Beach Resort are pricier at 1,800bt a night upwards. 

With its main restaurant on the beach and rooms behind, rates at Yu Yu Golden Beach start from 500bt but their standard bungalow is around 1,700bt with seaview. Heading along the dusty tracks, Lakchai, Lonely Groove PlaceFamily, Freedom Home, Seree, Yak and Green Garden, all cater for the traveller. You should be able to get a fan room with shared bathroom from 300bt, allow 700bt and upwards for ensuite.

Hat Sai Noi

Hat Sai Noi, the tiny beach before Bang Bao Beach proper, also has some accommodation with the stand-out  Indie Beach, 2,600bt for a seaview bungalow. Secret Garden has a bungalows and family set-ups from 2,000bt to 4,000bt a night (minimum stay 2 nights). Finally, Beach Box, offers its portacabin style rooms at ,000bt for a double fan, queen at 1,800bt and family at 2,700bt.

Bang Bao – Where to Stay

Though it does not  have an actual beach – you head to Bang Bao Beach 3 kilometres up the road for that –  the fishing village of Bang Bao still gives us a few very good mid range resorts, particularly on the north of the bay.

Northern Side of Bay

Bhuvarin Resort is the pick of them, fabulous views, 2 pools, a combination of new deluxe rooms and older standard ones, prices in the 1,600bt to 3,000bt a night range. Look out too for its neighbour, Resolution Resort, 3,000bt to 3,800bt for the deluxes.

In the same area, Cliff Cottage Resort combines bell tents (1,000bt per night, shared bathroom) with motel style rooms and cliffside bungalows, 1,500bt to 1,700bt. Padel Lodge is new in 2024 with just 3 ultra modern portacabin style bungalows, 3,000bt a night.

Heading off the bay back towards the main road, Orchid Garden too has a similar modern block style bungalows at 1,200bt. Back up by the main road, Wild Hippie offers a range of styles, 500bt at the lowest end for fan. And up the inland track, Hippy Hut has its latest home – reggae inspired bungalows, 450bt to 500bt a night, deals for longer stays.

Both on the pier, the wooden polished rooms off the central corridor at Jerpordee Residence (the old Buddha View) and the nearby Thai style guesthouse Ocean Blue are in the region of 800bt to 1,200bt a night range.

Southern Side

On the southern edge of the bay, you can find a handful of condos for holiday rental at Tranquillity Bay. Next door, Neeno and Pipin have more modest bungalows from 600bt a night.

Pearl Beach – Hotels, Resorts and Bungalows

Despite its lack of a sandy beach, Pearl Beach is a quietly popular place to stay on the island and only about 10 minutes by motorbike from the hub at White Sand Beach.

Resorts and Bungalows

At the nothern end, Ban Ton Rak, the small roadside boutique resort, offers doubles from 1,900bt to 3,200bt, with swimming pool and motorbikes for rental. Almost next door, Rose Garden, has cheaper bungalows and makes for a good long stay option.

Down by the sea, Privilege is an under-the-radar-choice, with good value bungalows and rooms from 950bt a night, Along from them, Saffron on the Sea has accommodation at 2,100bt to 3,360bt in the garden behind its excellent restaurant. Its near neighbour, Penny’s comprises tightly packed bungalows around the pool, with more rooms at the rear, 1,300bt to 1,500bt.

The older Bali styled Keereeta Resort is under new Italian management – rooms in adjoining houses over two floors, all set around a pool, 800bt to 1,500bt a night.

Villas

For families, the excellently kitted out villas, Elegance, Pearl Luxury, Suppathra and Inspiration (all have pools), are well worth considering. Rates start at 6,000bt a night, with a minimum stay requirement in high season.

Budget Tips

For where to stay if travelling on a budget, inland at the start of the village, TP Huts is the pick of the cheaper spots, fan rooms from 700bt, but look out too for its neighbours, Macura Resort and Alisa (changed hands in 24, new pool coming). Or you could try across the road at the older beach and gardent huts at Ban Na.
 
You can pitch a tent too at 150bt per person per night at Khai Mook Camping in its spot down by the ocean, with all facilities on hand – shared bathrooms and electric points.

Klong Son

Klong Son, nearest town to the ferries, is home to the largest private development on the island at Blue Haven Bay (Siam Royal Beach).

The complex comprises private holiday rental villas (from 8,000bt a day, minimum stay period) with some  excellent small resorts, Little Sunshine (3,700bt rooms to 8,500bt villa), Peninsula (5,800bt rooms to 11,000bt villa), Shambala Beach Resort (2,500bt to 8,300bt, some options minimum 2 night stay period) and Marina Sands (800bt dorms to 7,000bt suites).

Facilites within the development include a 40 and 20 metre pool, a 9 hole pitch and putt golf course, spas, a yacht marina, The Beach Club and Shambala Beach Restaurant.

Other Options

As for resorts, Aiyapura stands out as the sole luxury option, with a large selection of villas high up on the hillside overlooking the southern side of the bay, rooms from 4,000bt a night.

Scattered about the town, inland towards the waterfall, down near the sea from the central crossroads and  on the access road to Blue Haven, you’ll come across other small resorts, motels and guesthouses such as Evergreen Resort, Feel@Chill, Havana, Pukdee, Blue Sapphir, Phet Baan Suan and Riverside, where rates start at 700bt to 800bt rising to 2,000bt+ for family options.

Salak Phet, Chek Bae, Long Beach

In the far south east of Koh Chang, the very local area of Salak Phet caters mainly to Thai tourists (weekenders and packages) via a number of Thai homestays but there are a few places you can try.

Near the mangrove walkway, the stylish and modern Nanai Resort, new in 23/24, has just 4 rooms, pool and in house restaurant overlooking the mangroves – 2,700bt to 3,200bt. Also tastefully done in lots of polished wood, the small guesthouse Mangrove Hideaway, where rooms rate from 1,200bt a night, sits in the heart of the village on its sea walkway.

In the same area, the tiny guesthouse Baan Yemaya (800bt) in amongst the fisherman houses and also deep in the mangroves at the very end of the village, the homestay Baan Chan Lay (1,300bt to 3,000bt) give you some more room choices.

In the very far corner of the bay, Salak Phet Resort, famous primarily for its seafood restaurant, has rooms and cabanas, 2,200bt (standard double) to 4,500bt (seaview villa). Island View, home to Gulf Charter Yachts, has a block of adjoining rooms built out on stilts about 50 metres into the bay or you can try its hillside accommodation (with pool) – 1,000bt and up.

Chek Bae (Jek Bae)

Across the water in the equally local Chek Bae, Parama Resort provides high end exclusivity, prices ranging from 3,000bt a night for the standard room in its offshoot Parama 2 to 12,500bt for an ocean view suite in the main complex.

There are a handful other Thai resorts nearby such as Ban Mae and  Rommai Talay where bookings are usually part of a package but the English run Journey’s End, does give you another option – simple bungalows from 450bt with bar and restaurant, boat too.

Long Beach

Meanwhile, over on the very remote Long Beach, Long Beach Bungalows (the old Treehouse) still offers the original style of Thai bamboo beach huts with shared bathroom, 300bt.  It does have a good in-house restaurant but the electricity is from a generator so hours may be limited.

East Coast

East Coast Koh Chang resorts and villas are concentrated at Dan Khao, a few kilometres down from the two ferry piers at Ao Sapparot and Centrepoint.

Amber Sands Beach Resort and Serenity Resort, line the red sand beach with Sunrise Beach tucked in the middle. If you are looking to get away from it all, these are a great place to start with prices from starting from 2,500bt (Sunrise), 2,600bt (Serenity) for its rooms, not villas and 3,500bt (Amber Sands). Having a motorbike to go to and fro during the day is a good idea.

Southern End of Dan Khao

Another couple of kilometres along, Baan Talay Thai is a private housing development, with 2 to 5 bedroom villas (private or communal pool) for mimimum 2 day to 5 day rentals. Assume 3,500bt per day at the lower end, 12,5000bt to 15,000bt at the top.   

Dan Mai

Grande Suns European style houses, an infinity pool and restaurant in Dan Mai. Prices range from 8,500bt a night peak to 22,500bt, with minimum 2 nights stay and longer rentals available.

At the other end of town, you can stay in one of Koh Chang’s most luxurious seafront villas at either Wave A or B. Sleeping 8 with a large pool,peaks season sees prices from 30,000bt a night, minimum stay requirement of 5 days.  

Salak Khok

At the far end of the east coast at Salak Khok, you can either simply relax or join a detox programme (charged separately) at the The Spa Koh Chang. Rooms at the back go from as low at 1,450bt with the pool villa at 3,450bt a night.

Bailan Beach – Where to Stay

Despite not being blessed with an impressive beach – just a small scrappy one at either end of the village – the peaceful, laid back Bailan Beach is home to a good range of mid range and budget places to stay.

Mid Range

Over the last few years, Mercure Hideway, which sits at the southern end on the sand, has emerged as one Koh Chang’s most reliable mid range hotels. Its standard rooms start at 2,500bt a night, with the pool villas from 5,000bt. Next door, The White House combines rooms and small villas around the pool, 1,400bt to 2,900bt.

At the northern end, also on the seafront, Bailan Beach Resort offers practical bungalows in the 1,700bt to 2,500bt range.

Bungalows and Budget Tips

At the northern end, roadside, the minimalist brushed concrete Lazy Repuplique and the more conventional Cocoon and Baan Sanook all offer simple well kept bungalows with small pools. Prices start from 800bt  to 1,500bt a night for a double, 2,500bt for a family room.

Vanara and Jungle Garden are two others work a look, slightly cheaper but neither has a pool. 3 Trees Guesthouse is the budget option at this end, with rooms out back from 500bt.

On the small lane down to the sea in the middle of the village, Red Moon Hideaway, has well appointed bungalows from 2,200bt upwards. Follow on down to the bottom and Elephant Bay, complete with its ocean fronting swimming pool, has an electic mix of rooms, starting at 900bt for the a double and 2,000bt for the family. Next door,  the more basic Kohchang 7 ranges from 400bt to 1,000bt, its good Korean restaurant overlooking the ocean.
