For the resorts listed, prices range from 1,800bt to 2,000bt for a standard room right up to 16,000bt to 21,000bt for a deluxe private pool villa. Prices given are for peak season. You can jump straight to each resort – they are not listed in rating order.

Koh Chang Paradise Resort – Chai Chet Beach – Koh Chang Resorts

koh chang paradise resort koh chang resorts
Pool Villa at Paradise Resort and Spa

Koh Chang Paradise Resort, one of Koh Chang’s longest established resorts, is located on a lovely stretch of beach at the southern end of Chai Chet.

Accommodation consists of 80 individual bungalows and villas, closely packed together in tropical gardens. Styled with polished wooden floors and simple dark furniture, the ensuite rooms come as either superior or deluxe, garden or beachside. TV, safe, fridge, tea, coffee failities, WiFi and a terrace with seating are all standard.

The pool villas, again either in the garden or with ocean view, go for the traditional Lanna style of pointed roof and wood panelling interior. It’s safe design rather than anything radical, reflecting very much the solid and dependable nature of the resort itself.

Dining, Facilities and Location

The restaurant serves a buffet breakfast, with a full menu available at other times as well as an evening seafood BBQ. You can also get snacks at the poolside bar. Outside of the resort, you can try the food at the other resorts on either side or head to the main street for the pick of the local diners at Signature or cheap and cheerful near VJ Plaza, U Turn in particular.

As well as the lovely oceanfront swimming pool, you can relax at the spa and massage. There is a fitness center on site. Paradise shares a water park on the other side of the road with its cheaper sister hotel, Paradise Hill.

Chai Chet Beach – and Paradise has a prime spot in the middle – is one of the best stretches on the island, with lovely white soft sand and clear, blue calm waters.

Prices and Booking

Superior Bungalows are around 5,700bt a night in the garden, rising to 6,900bt seafront. Deluxe Bungalows go from 7,000bt, Pool Villas at 12,300bt, Beachfront Pool Villas from 19,500bt and Family Pool Villas at 21,900bt. Centara Tropicana Resort – Klong Prao Beach – Koh Chang Resorts

centara tropicana koh chang resorts
A classic cabana at Tropicana Centara

Managed by the Centara Group, Koh Chang Tropicana is a large but very laid back resort set in lovely tropical gardens on Klong Prao Beach.

The resort has over 150 rooms and cabanas, some on single storeys, some on double. All are built in a similar design of thatch roofs atop textured, ochre coloured exteriors. Interiors employ varnished wood extensively in floors, high ceilings and accompanying fans, screens and furniture. This is then contrasted with bold colors for soft furnishings, rugs and tiling in the bathrooms.

The ensuite, a/c rooms themselves come in all shapes and sizes from superior to deluxe, moving up through cabanas – deluxe, oceanview or premium – up to the largest type available, the suites. All are nicely private, tucked away amongst the surrounding foliage and connected by paths which naturally lead you down to the beach area.

Dining, Facilities and Location

There are 2 swimming pools, one by the sand and one inside the grounds. Each main pool has a children’s section too. Indeed, the resort is known for being very child friendly with plenty of activities laid on to keep the kids happy.

The in house restaurant, Sea Breeze, is located on the beach, serving a buffet breakfast and then Thai and western cuisine at other meal times. It lays on a evening buffet most nights. Food is also available in the smaller lobby diner and for cocktails, the beach bar hits the spot.

In about 8 minutes, you can walk along the long winding access lane up to the central area of Klong Prao. Here, youll find a range of restaurants and minimarts. The resort also provides a frequent shuttle. Alternatively, you can head down the sand to any of the nearby resorts.

Tropicana has its own fitness room as well as Cenavaree Spa, boasting massage, treatments, sauna and jacuzzi.

Prices and Booking

Superior rooms range between 3,150bt and 4,200bt, Deluxe King at 3,400bt to 4,500bt, Deluxe Twin at 3,750bt to 4,840bt, Cabanas 3,700bt to 5,000bt. Double Room in Garden starts at 5,000bt, with Junior Suites at 8,200bt.

Chang Buri Resort – White Sand Beach – Koh Chang Resorts

chang buri resort koh chang
Poolside Villas (sea-side) at Chang Buri Resort

Situated at the southern end of White Sand Beach, Chang Buri Resort hosts 110 rooms on either side of the main street.

The cheaper hillside accommodation consists of a 3 storey hotel style block, with a decent swimming pool and an (infrequently open) bar at its rear. The rooms come ensuite with a balcony, safe, TV, tea/coffee facilities, a/c and WiFi.

Head across the road and the seaside section is by far the best part of the resort, dominated by a feature sized infinity swimming pool high up over the ocean. It’s also home to a much wider selection of room choices, from deluxes and suites set in the gardens, to villas fronting onto small rectangular pools, private pool villas and seafront premium suites.

The rooms themselves feature dark wooden floors and furniture alongside Thai style wallcoverings to break things up and plenty of light from the floor to ceiling windows. Each room has all the expected facilities, with the bonus of a bathtub in all the choices.

Dining, Facilities and Location

A buffet breakfast is laid out daily in the oceanfront restaurant, which then also offers an all day menu of Thai or western dishes and an evening seafood BBQ. The main pool has a bar too, with a good coffee shop on site by the road.

Chang Buri Resort runs an in-house Spa for massage, treatments and a steam room.

Due to the rocks, you cannot swim at this end of White Sand Beach but it’s very easy indeed to walk a few minutes north for the better sand and sea. Similarly, a quick stroll in all directions puts you in the heart of the town’s restaurants and bars.

Prices and Booking

In peak season, the cheaper Hillside Rooms start at 2,750bt whilst the Superior (ground floor, also on that side of the street) are 3,400bt. By the sea, the Double or Twin Rooms are 3,150bt, the Garden Villas are 4,550bt and the Poolside Villas 5,250bt.

Aana Resort – Klong Prao Beach – Koh Chang Resorts

AANA resort koh chang
Looking down on Aana Resort

Long established and uniquely designed, Aana Resort sits canalside in Klong Prao, comprising 71 rooms in total.

The accommodation ranges from single or two storey white washed circular villas, joined by elevated stairways and terraces, to deluxe rooms in two low rise accommodation blocks which front onto a larger central swimming pool. There are also three further buildings which house the 2 room grande deluxes on the ground floor. On the 2nd and 3rd storeys, you’ll find the top view rooms, some with accompanying plunge pools.

Topped by thatch or tiled conical roofs, the upper villas are built in the round with a pared back design to give a sense of space. At the centre of each tiled floor sits a king size bed with net, whilst light wood shelving and storage hugs the white walls. Leading off this, there’s an ensuite bathroom, the plunge pool and a separate driftwood style balcony. The other room varieties, though not all in the round, follow a similar design styling. All rooms options provide a TV, fridge, WiFi, safe, balcony, a/c, bath and shower as standard.

Dining, Facilities and Location

Buffet breakfast is served in the dining room towards the top the resort from 06.30. By the river, its charming restaurant, Baan Ta Klua, offers eastern Thai specialities as well as a full menu. It’s open from 11.00 onwards.

For other restaurants, you’ll find a few choices just outside the resort along the river (Iyara Seafood, Phu Talay). You can also head towards Chai Chet (Signature) or the main strip in Klong Prao just after the temple – about 10 minutes by songthaew taxi or motorbike.

In addition to all the plunge pools attached to the villas, there are two good sized resort swimming pools, one up at the top of the resort (see the photo at the top of the article) and the newer, larger one by the river.

Aanaprovides a gondola boat shuttle service to and from its own private beach (with bar), 5 minutes away at the point where the river meets the sea. You can also kayak there or head the other way for a fascinating exploration of the mangroves.

Prices and Booking

Deluxe rooms start at 2,400bt per night rising to 4,000bt, Villas with Plunge Pool (River View) are upwards from 5,700bt, Villas with Plunge Pool (Garden View) are 8,000bt and the Top View style is 9,500bt.

Kacha Resort – White Sand Beach – Koh Chang Resorts

kacha resort koh chang
Beachside Rooms at Kacha Resort

At the northern end of White Sand Beach, the 174 room Kacha Resort straddles the main road with accommodation in either the hillside or seaside wings.

Rooms come in all shapes and sizes from deluxe rooms to suites, chalets to beachfront or seaview pool villas. Design is practical and light rather than particularly eye-catching, but the rooms are clean and well maintained. As standard, each option provides a/c, a seating area, ensuite bath and shower, TV, safe, tea/coffee making, WiFi and balcony.

Dining, Facilities and Location

For dining choices, there are 2 restaurants, one at the front of the hillside area and the other serving a buffet breakfast, followed by a full Thai and western menu.

Each wing has its own large swimming pool and children’s pool, with accompanying bar and loungers. Kacha operates a full in-house spa in addition to a well equipped fitness centre. It has a kid’s club.

Kacha’s location in White Sand Beach is unbeatable. It fronts onto a terrific section of sand, with perfect blue shallow seas for swimming. At at the same time, it’s bang smack in the heart of the town, with a vast array of restaurants, shops, bars and indeed other resorts on its doorstep.

Prices and Booking

In peak season, Hillside Deluxe Rooms start as low as 2,200bt, with the more expensive option, Seaside Deluxe Rooms at around 2,800bt. The Deluxe Chalet ranges from 3,800bt to 4,200bt, whilst Junior Suites (Garden View) are 4,20bt to 4,650bt. Delxue Villas and Seaside Deluxe Pool Villas are 4,700bt to 5,700bt respectively.

Sylvan (Seaview Resort) – Kai Bae Beach – Resorts on Koh Chang

seaview resort koh chang resorts
Looking back at the 3 distinct areas of Sylvan Resort

At the southern end of Kai Bae Beach, Sylvan (formerly Seaview ) is another vast resort of 150 rooms with accommodation laid out either by the ocean or up on the clifftop.

Down by the sea, you have a choice of deluxe rooms or ocean villa suites in the main hotel block. Design throughout is ultra modern and crisp, with sections of light wooden flooring combined with white gloss tiling, white washed walls complimented by wall coverings and Thai art, all offset by pastel coloured furnishings. The balconies too allow lots of light into the rooms to give it that summery holiday vibe. In room WiFi, TV, fridge, safe and so on are of course standard.

Up on the clifftop, grand deluxe or panorama suites are housed in a 4 storey modern block clinging to the hillside. These rooms too have that elegant and light design, but from every balcony, you also get a simply stunning view both out to sea and of Koh Man Nai, the uninhabited island just offshore.

Saving the best for last, you can also stay in a very sleek family pool villa – for us, perhaps the best pool villas on Koh Chang . These are finished in brushed concrete and come complete with their own roof terrace and jacuzzi. Or, for the newly weds, Sylvan offers an equally luxurious honeymoon suite with panoramic views of beach and ocean.

Dining, Facilities and Location

Seaview has two swimming pools, the better and quieter one up the hillside at the top. There is also a (slow) funicular railway which runs from the cliff to the beach. Given the amount of steep steps which connect the two distinct areas, this becomes more useful than you would think, especially if mobility is an issue.

Breakfast is served buffet style at the cliffside 1989 Restaurant, which then continues all day with dishes off menu. Down by the sea, the Sunset Restaurant opens at 10.00 in the morning, its speciality an evening BBQ.

The resort offers in house massage and treatments at its award winning Sylvan Rainforest Spa. It can also organise activities such as kayaking to that offshore island or snorkeling at its neighbour, Koh Yuak.

Prices and Booking

Grande Deluxe Rooms (Seaview) start at 6,200bt, the Junior Family style at 7,200bt, the larger Deluxe Family at 8,200bt. Superior Beachfront rooms and the Panorama Suite are 6,500bt. The luxurious Pool Villas, the most expensive option, start at 16,000bt. All rates given are for peak season.

The Spa Koh Chang – Salak Khok, East Coast – Koh Chang Resorts

the spa koh chang
Upper Floor Accommodation at Spa Koh Chang

Moving away from the larger resorts, The Spa Koh Chang is the island’s original health retreat, offering bespoke programmes at its centre down on the east coast. It’s built on a small lagoon at the top of the mangrove forest, a uniquely secluded spot, far far away from the crowds – an ideal place indeed to commit to a fast or a detox.

The accommodation itself sits on the hillside and under the trees looking down on the central lake area and its relaxation salas. Room options are either standard, 4 to a building, individual cottages or the lower/upper levels of a single cottage. The design is heavily centred on natural materials, using plenty of wood, bamboo and thatch. All rooms are a/c and ensuite with WiFi, safe and an outdoor seating area.

Dining

The in-house restaurant, Radiance, is up on the 2nd floor of the main building, with terrific views out over the lake and the mangroves. The menu is based on raw produce, vegan and vegetarian dishes as well as seafood and white meat options. Alongside these, juices and shakes are a house speciality given their extensive use in the fasting courses themselves.

Facilities and Programmes

The resort also offers massage and a steam room at its spa, whilst an in-house yoga instructor teaches daily classes. You can also laze away the hours in the cooling two tier swimming pool.

It is not compulsory to sign up for a health programme to stay at The Spa, but the resort’s emphasis naturally lies with its different fasting and cleansing courses. These include 1/2 week, full week, anti-candida, gall bladder and many other programmes.

Location

This area of the island is isolated, perfect for escapism but trickier if you want to get out and about. The resort should be able to rent you a motorbike or a car. Be wary of the bicycles as local distances are deceptively further than you think and it’s hot out there.

You can also use the songthaew taxis, which run 3 times daily in both directions up towards the ferries, 100bt per person. Unfortunately, late afternoon or evenings, those services have stopped running so you would require a much more expensive charter.

Prices and Booking

Prices per night start at 1,850bt for the Oriental Double Room. The Superior Twin (Garden view) is 3,600bt, with the Superior Upper Double at 3,950bt. A Deluxe Double with Bath is 4,400bt – all rates are peak season. All rates are exclusive of the treatment courses – you can find more information on them here directly at their site.

Barali Beach Resort – Klong Prao Beach – Koh Chang Resorts

barali beach resort koh chang
Looking down on Barali Beach Resort’s swimming pool by Klong Prao Beach

Located in central Klong Prao, Barali Beach Resort is an understated, modern resort of 40 villas, all set in pretty lawned gardens down by the sea.

The accommodation comes in a variety of guises – premier or deluxe villas towards the rear of the property, beachfront villas with or without a private pool at the front and finally, a couple of junior suites also looking out to sea.

All ensuite a/c rooms are equipped with king size beds, shower and bath, TV, safe, tea/coffee making facilities, WiFi and an outdoor seating area. The pool villas have both the private pool and a double terrace. The suites, meanwhile, are distinguished by their unique location, facing both the main swimming pool and the beach itself. The styling of all the rooms is in a light and contemporary design of polished dark wood floors, offset by whitewashed walls combined with cream and pastel furnishings.

Dining, Facilities and Location

The main restaurant, also oceanfront and on two levels, opens for buffet breakfast from 06.30. It then moves onto a full menu, Thai and western, at all other times.

Following the winding access lane, you can walk up to the main village area near the temple in about 10 minutes, where you’ll find plenty of other restaurant and bar options. Or, alternatively, stroll along the beach to see what the competition is up to.

The resort swimming pool, which has an accompanying children’s pool and jacuzzi, is right on the beach, with an all day bar and a terrace restaurant alongside. Barali offers a separate spa for massage and treatments.

As another of Koh Chang’s excellent under the radar resorts, Barali is well worth considering. Its service is unfussy but attentive. Its location is convenient for all the amenities on the west coast. Above all, though, it succeeds in creating a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere apart from all the island bustle.

Prices and Booking

Rates for the Deluxe Villas begin at 3,170bt, Premier at 3,500bt, Pool Villas and Beachfront Villas at 6,600bt – peal season dates.

The Splash – Klong Prao Beach – Koh Chang Resorts

the spa koh chang
Superior Rooms at The Splash

Located seaside at the far southern end of Klong Prao Beach, The Splash is one of the newest 3/4 star resorts on the island, proving immensely popular since it opened in 2020. It comprises some 85 rooms, a huge swimming pool come water park, two restaurants and a bar.

The Splash, part of the Awa, Dewa, Ramayana Group, is actually a clever redesign of the old Koh Chang Cabana, where the old two storey rooms have been completely redesigned and refitted to high specification and the pool, its tour de force, added.

Rooms are either the Standard or Deluxe (ground, 1st or 2nd floor), the individual Cottages or the Family Suites. Their interior styling combines brushed concrete, faux marble and brown muted colours to create a sleek, plush look, though it does feel quite corporate.

Amenities in all the rooms include air conditioning, ensuite bathroom (toiletries, gowns, slippers, hair dryer), flatscreen TV, DVD, minibar, safe, fridge, seating area, balcony or terrace and WiFi access.

Dining, Facilities and Location

Above the reception area and next door to the pool, the in-house restaurant S Bites serves a buffet breakfast from 07.00 and then, off menu, lunch and poolside snacks and drinks till 17.00. The S Bar is down by the sea, open from 10.00 in the morning through to 22.00. This is where you head for dinner. There’s a full bar too. For other choices, it’s 10 minutes walk to Kai Bae Beach or the same by songthaew taxi back to the main strip near the temple in Klong Prao village.

Of course, the main draw for the resort is the feature swimming pool come water park with all its slides, features and fountains. If you are a kid or parent, then yes, this is a mighty fun place to muck about for a few hours but for those wanting a lounger to read a book and get some rays, this pool is not really the spot.

The beach at this end of Klong Prao is not the finest, with the sea retreating a long way at low tide. You can amble north to the other resorts including Emerald Cove, Dewa and Vayna Boutique or south to the beach end and from there, Kai Bae.

Prices and Booking

Superior Double or Twin Rooms are 2,100bt, Deluxe Doubles or Twins at 2,800bt. The standalone Cottages are 3,570bt and the Family Room 6,890bt – all just outside of peak season. In peak, assume minimum stay of 4 nights and substantial increase in the rates (around 4,000bt extra per night per room).

Ramayana Resort – Klong Prao Beach – Koh Chang Resorts

ramayana resort koh chang
A room interior at Ramayana Resort
Ramayana closed from March 2020 due to the pandemic and it is only now showing signs of life once more. Best contact them direct to check on what is available.

The 3 star Ramayana Resort occupies a vast area which runs back from the main road at the northern end of Klong Prao Beach.

The 75 rooms are scattered about wonderful mature tropical gardens, connected by a myriad of paths going in all directions, little bridges crossing water features and a grand swimming pool at the centre.

The majority of the accommodation is of the same ilk, the so called Hanuman. These ensuite a/c rooms are tastefully designed with dark wooden varnished floors, white walls adorned with splashes of Thai art, a king size bed and tiled terrace. TV, fridge, WiFi, tea/coffee facilities are standard. Next up from that style, Ravana features larger rooms with 4 poster beds. For families, the Rama option gives you a whole Thai style house of 2 wood panelled bedrooms with doubles and twins, a huge open plan bathroom and seating areas.

Dining, Facilities and Location

Ramayana has two restaurants, one in the gardens and one near the lobby. It’s the usual buffet breakfast to start the day and then a full menu at other times, with evening BBQ. You can also get snacks with your drinks at the pool bar.

For health and pampering, the resort has a fitness room and in-house Spa, with a sauna alongside the wide range of massages and treatments.

The one drawback for Ramayana is the location, which is not within easy walking distance of shops or restaurants. You will need to use the taxis to get about or rent a motorbike. It is also not particularly near a beach with the section at Chai Chet at least 10 minutes away on foot. Conscious of this problem, the resort runs a regular shuttle to and from its sister resort, The Dewa, which is right on the sand at the other end of Klong Prao. You can also use the facilities there too, though not all for free.

Prices and Booking

As part of the Awa, Dewa and The Splash Group, expect minimum 4 days bookings in peak periods and a compulsory NYE dinner. Look out too for their frequent room sales.

As of August 22, it appears that their cheaper rooms, Hanuman, are available for multi day bookings at around 4,400bt a night in peak. The more expensive, Ravana (5,300bt, pre Covid) and the Rana family house at (8,500bt, pre Covid) are not yet showing as available.
