Lonely Beach Bungalows and Resorts

Lonely Beach bungalows and resorts on come in many shapes and sizes, from cheap backpacker rooms with paper thin walls, shared bathroom and cold shower to boutique resorts at Nest Sense and Warapura Resort.

You’ll find somewhere to suit all budgets, just do bear in mind that Lonely Beach is a party area with lots of late night music from the parties and bars.

On the Beach – Lonely Beach Bungalows and Resorts

There are just three places to stay on Lonely Beach itself.

Bhumiyama Beach Resort offers large Lanna style houses over two floors, with further rooms at the back too. It’s all set in lovely gardens with multi-level swimming pools. Prices in peak season range from 2,500bt to 5,500bt per night.

Siam Beach Resort at the northern end, has upgraded over the last few years, with the addition of two storey blocks housing seaview rooms. These start from 2,900bt, whilst its older pool villas are in the region of 6,600bt a night.

The very popular Nature Beach Resort mixes chic thatch rooms alongside newer boutique style bungalows with a cute infinity pool and arguably, the premier beach style diner on Koh Chang. Expect prices between 1,600bt and 2,400bt in the peak season, perhaps more.

The cheapest accommodation at Siam Huts, a long time favourite of Koh Chang backpackers, has now closed down.

The Village – Lonely Beach Bungalows and Resorts

The rest of the Lonely Beach bungalows and the two premier boutique resorts, Warapura Resort and Nest Sense are found in the village, a 7 minute walk south from the beach itself.

The village is laid out in a grid system, with two sois or streets, Soi Tian Chai 1 and Soi Tian Chai 2, running parallel with one another as they lead off the main road down to the rocky seafront. Along each of these, you will find bars, restaurants, guesthouses and bungalows, all jostling for space and attention.

Along Soi 1

At the top of the Lonely Beach Complex between the beach and the village, the dorm style, Stay Inn Hostel is firmly closed with no news on its plans for 2022/23.

As you turn down into Soi 1, the long established Thale Guesthouse sits adjacent to Cafe Del Sunshine, which itself has its mixture of rooms and dorm accommodation on the little connecting street back to Soi 2. Rates per night at either range from 200bt for a bunk bed in a dorm room to 300bt for single fan room, 600bt for double with fan and 700bt for an a/c double.

Further down, Sunflower Bungalows has been around many a year, a mixture of different sized bungalows in a garden area. Prices are likely from 400bt but do bear in mind, it’s right next door to Ting Tong Bar.

At the bottom of Soi 1, Sea Flower is the undoubted pick of the bungalows bunch in the Sois, offering very reasonable rates from 600bt for its rooms by the ocean on the rocks. It’s just a short walk along the back route to the actual beach. Meanwhile, the older Sunset Huts, at 800bt for a/c and hot water, also sits on the seafront here. Follow their accommodation along the shore to connect back to Soi 2 at its end.

Along Soi 2

Located on the bottom corner of the narrow connecting street which runs parallel to the sea from Soi 1 to Soi 2, you’ll find the small well maintained Blue Sky Resort at 500bt to 1,500bt a night – a good under-the-radar choice.

Opposite Blue Sky Resort sits the excellent compact boutique Warapura Resort, a firm favourite with the flashpacker crowd. This split into two in late 2020, with the newly established Casa Beach assuming the pool, double villas and hillside accomodation at the back. Warapura kept the rooms and restaurant on the seafront – prices range from 2,300bt to 3,300bt.

Going back up Soi 2 towards the main road, OYO KLKL Hostel offers a combination of rooms and dorms, even a swimming pool but still has cheap prices at 450bt upwards. Further up, the smart 10 room resort Carpe Diem offers good clean doubles from 1,500bt in high season. Across from them, Antenna, the French owned guesthouse, remains closed, while Marco’s Guesthouse and Lam Yai Bungalows have both shut down permanently.

At the top on the corner with the main street, Sleepy Owl, from the same owners as Warapura, is also still closed. It is/was a mixture of dorm accommodation and private rooms behind its coffee shop .

Along the Main Street Heading South

Emerging back on the main thoroughfare, yet more Lonely Beach bungalows line each side of the road as you head further south.

Re-opened after a couple of years’ Covid hiatus, Lonely Beach Resort offers bungalow accommodation within well kept gardens and has a swimming pool. Expect prices starting at 800bt a night upwards. Next door, Kachapura has yet to restart and no word if it will or not?

Opposite, Janrassamee is a smart home stay with rooms at 1,500bt up, while at the far end, Magic Garden combines thatch and concrete rooms with an all-together happy backpacker vibe. Beach Jungle, too, has sprung back to life and will be ready for the 2022/23 season with its eclectic mix of deluxe rooms as well a dorm hostel.

BB Lonely Beach, a hostel of private rooms at 650bt per night and dorm accommodation bunk beds at 250bt, is still currently closed but likely to re-open late in the year. Margaritaville, meanwhile, has a small selection of stylish 1,500bt rooms behind its hip bar and restaurant.

There’s a few Russian owned spots too in this area, with the pick of them, Exotic Bungalows, 1,000bt rooms and a small swimming pool. The tiny Green Sun next door is a 350bt budget choice, though it has just 8 bungalows facing each other and no garden. Opposite, the older Fish House, has large rooms up on stilts, at 1,500bt a night during the high season.

Soi 3

On the mountain side of the main street, another narrow lane, Soi Tian Chai 3, snakes its way uphill. Various small bungalow resorts, Day and Night, Janina’s (currently closed) and Little Eden sit across from one another as you climb up to the excellent Oasis Resort at the top. Prices across the board are in the 500bt to 1,500bt bracket (excluding family rooms).

Southern End – Lonely Beach Bungalows and Resorts

At the far southern end as you leave the village and head towards Bailan Beach, the dorms and private rooms of OYO My Hostel are still closed. Immediately next door to it, though, the final small street on the right leads down to the boutique resort, Nest Sense and the bungalows of Paradise Cottage.

Complete with its infinity pool, Nest Sense, is the premier resort in Lonely Beach comprising around 20 rooms and pool villas only. Prices at the bottom end are 4,400bt for the deluxe rooms at the rear, 6,400bt for the seaview pool villas and up to 8,800bt for the seaside pool villas.

Paradise Cottage, meanwhile, has been a stalwart of the area for many years, a stylish mix of lounge bar and restaurant, plunge pool and chic, brushed concrete bungalows – fan in the garden at 400bt, seafront a/c cabana up to 2,000bt. It too has a small pool.

In Summary – Lonely Beach Bungalows and Resorts

As you make your final choice, it is worth bearing in mind that Lonely Beach, Soi 1 in particular, is the island’s nightlife capital so there can be a good deal of extraneous noise. In theory, there is a cut off time of midnight, but things may rumble on and on (Ting Tong in particular).

As long as you are fully aware of this, it’s a great place to hang out, the small beach remains one of Koh Chang’s very best, you’ll meet a lot of nice people with whom to share a beer or cocktail and at some point, you may well fall head over heels in love (or drunk).

Given you’re on holiday, it’s also good to know that the one thing Lonely Beach on Koh Chang does not do very well, is get up early.
