Koh Chang Island Hopping – Speedboats, Wooden Boat, Catamaran – Timetables, Prices

Island hopping between Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Koh Mak and Koh Wai is run by three companies, Bang Bao Boats, Kai Bae Huts Nor Nou Speedboats and Boonsiri Catamaran.

Bang Bao Boats and Kai Bae Huts Nor Nou Speedboats run daily speedboats in each direction, with Bang Bao Boats also offering a slower wooden passenger boat. Boonsiri Catamaran operates a once daily catamaran each way.

These services do not run during the low season from mid May to the beginning of November.

From May 10 2022, the wooden boat, will stop for the low/rainy season, restarting again in October/November. See the Rainy Season Travel (May to October) below for your options over the next few months.

The speedboats and catamaran listed below may also start for 22/23 high season but note they have not run at all since March 2020 due to the pandemic.

Bang Bao Boats – Koh Chang Island Hopping

This speedboat service is currently not running, it may restart in high season 22/23 depending on demand .

Bang Bao Boats leave from Bang Bao on Koh Chang, with 2 daily speedboats at 09.30 and 12.00 and a wooden boat at 09.00. Returns from Koh Kood are at 09.00 and 12.00, the wooden boat at 13.00.

On Koh Chang, there is a free share shuttle taxi transfer from your resort to Bang Bao Pier or the reverse if arriving.

Speedboat – Bang Bao Boats

In journey order, the speedboat stops at your resort pier on Koh Wai and then the pier at Koh Mak Resort on Ao Suan Yai Beach, north west coast on Koh Mak. At Koh Kood, it delivers you direct to your resort if possible.

On arrival at Koh Mak, your resort normally picks you up or you use one of the local taxis, 50bt per person, minimum charge 100bt. For departure, ask your resort to drop you at Koh Mak Resort.

Arriving at Koh Kood, if delivery is not possible direct to your resort, the speedboat drops you at the nearest pier and they/resort provides a (normally free) share shuttle taxi to your resort.

Going the other way, it’s the same system in reverse but you should always get your resort to confirm the arrangements and if there is any charge.

Wooden Slow Boat – Bang Bao Boats

As of 10th May 2022, this service is suspended for rainy season, June to October.

The wooden passenger ferry boat docks at Koh Wai Paradise Pier on Koh Wai, Koh Mak Resort Pier on Koh Mak and Ao Salad Pier on the east coast of Koh Kood.

At Koh Wai, you walk to your resort along the coastal path or if staying at Koh Wai Beach Resort, you organise your own collection beforehand. It’s the same system in reverse for departure.

On arrival at Koh Mak, your resort normally picks you up or you use one of the local taxis, 50bt per person, minimum charge 100bt. For departure, ask your resort to drop you at Koh Mak Resort.

At Koh Kood, there is a free share shuttle taxi to your resort, same in reverse for departure. You should always confirm this when booking.

Kai Bae Huts Nor Nou Speedboats – Koh Chang Island Hopping

This speedboat service is currently not running, it may restart in high season 22/23 depending on demand .

Kai Bae Huts Nor Nou Speedboats leaves at 09.00 daily from Kai Bae Huts Resort Pier, which is located at the end of the little street opposite Meeechai Elephant Camp, the southern end of Kai Bae Beach. The return is at 11.00 from Koh Kood.

In journey order, the speedboat stops at your resort pier on Koh Wai and then the pier at Makathanee Resort on Ao Kao Beach, the south west coast on Koh Mak. At Koh Kood, it delivers you direct to your resort if possible.

On Koh Chang, there is a free share shuttle taxi transfer from your resort to Kai Bae Huts Pier or the reverse if arriving.

On arrival at Koh Mak, same as with Bang Bao Boats, your resort may collect you if you let them know or use a local taxi, 50bt per person, minimum charge 100bt. For departure, ask your resort to drop you at Makathanee Resort.

Arriving at Koh Kood, if delivery is not possible direct to your resort, the speedboat drops you at the nearest pier and then they/the resort provide a share shuttle taxi to your resort – this is normally free .

Going the other way, it’s the same system in reverse but you should always get your resort to confirm the arrangements. A couple of resorts down in the south west may charge you.

Boonsiri Catamaran – Koh Chang Island Hopping

This service is currently not running and no word yet if it will restart again in 22/23 high season.

Boonsiri Catamaran, one of the main boats from Laem Sok Pier for Koh Kood and indeed also serving Koh Mak, has a once daily catamaran shuttle between the Koh Chang Islands.

The service leaves at 10.00 daily from Koh Chang, with the return at 12.15 from Koh Kood.

In Koh Chang, there is a free transfer service by share shuttle songthaew taxi from your resort to Bang Bao Pier for departure or the reverse if arriving.

On arrival at Koh Mak, your resort normally picks you up or you use one of the local taxis, 50bt per person, minimum charge 100bt. For departure, ask your resort to drop you at Ao Nid.

Arriving on Koh Kood at Ao Salad, there is a free share shuttle taxi to your resort. Going the other way, it’s the same system in reverse but you should always get your resort to confirm the arrangements.

From Salak Phet area – Koh Chang Island Hopping

If staying on the Koh Chang East Coast, there is no Koh Chang island hopping service out to the islands unless you rent a private boat at 5,000bt upwards.

Tickets you may see advertised near to Salak Phet for Koh Wai, Koh Mak and Koh Kood will, in fact, take you on a taxi back to White Sand Beach to join the free morning transfer that the boats operate to Bang Bao or Kai Bae respectively.


May to October – Island Hopping between Koh Kood, Koh Mak and Koh Chang

These Koh Chang island hopping boats do not run during the rainy season, so you will have to return to the mainland using the main ferries and then travel along the coast to make the boat connections from Laem Ngop Pier for Koh Mak and from Laem Sok Pier for Koh Kood.

You can use either private or share options.

Koh Chang to/from Koh Mak – May to October

Private Transfer

For the private option, prices are from 1,200bt for a car for 2 pax in either direction with hotel collection/delivery on Koh Chang and fast ferry tickets from/to Koh Chang. The price does not include the boat tickets to/from Koh Mak, 450bt per person.

Share

For the share option, you take a songthaew taxi on Koh Chang to either pier at Ao Sapparot or Centerpoint, then hop in a Trat bound taxi on the other side and ask them to drop you at Laem Ngop Pier for Koh Mak. This mainland taxi leg is 50bt per person from Centerpoint Pier or 300bt minimum charge from Thammachat Pier.

If coming the other way, on arrival at Laem Ngop Pier from Koh Mak, take a taxi to Centerpoint Pier. Ferries are on the hour, 10.00, 11.00 etc to Koh Chang. Songthaew taxis are lined up at the pier on the island side but will only leave when full.

Koh Chang to/from Koh Kood – May to October

Private Transfer

For the private option, prices are from 2,300bt for a car for 2 pax in either direction with hotel collection/delivery on Koh Chang and fast ferry tickets from/to Koh Chang. The price does not include the boat tickets to/from Koh Kood, 300bt to 500bt per person depending on which time and company.

Share

This service is currently not running.

For the share minibus, the cost is 750bt per person with hotel collection on Koh Chang from 08.00 onwards for the slow ferry at Centerpoint. This links to the minibus at 11.30 which takes you to Laem Sok Pier for the 14.20 boat, arriving on Koh Kood at 15.20. There is a free shuttle taxi from the arrival pier to your resort.

The return service uses the 09.00 boat off Koh Kood to link to the Centerpoint ferry to Koh Chang, with delivery to your resort. The price is again 750bt per person, all inclusive.
