A tiny fishing village built either side of a small sea inlet, Klong Mad is one of Koh Kood’s most under the radar spots with a few great places to stay squeezed in amongst its local life.
As there is only a tiny beach, prices are lower here than elsewhere on the coast, making it well worth considering for those on a budget. You can also easily rent a motorbike to get to the superb sand at Ao Tapao, 10 minutes drive at most.
Down by the sea with that beach area in front, the old style Suanya Resort, attracts mainly Thai weekenders to its combination of huge villas and smaller bungalows, where prices start at 1,300bt a night.
Around the inlet facing onto the jetties, you’ll find a couple of homestays, Baan Raw and Rabieng Talay, where a room is 1,300bt.
On the approach road into the village itself, Wave-F is a long running resort with around 15 bungalows in competing styles, prices from 1,500bt. The highly recommended Baan Bua Cottage, just after the bridge, offers half a dozen bungalows from 2,250bt a night.
Leaving the area via the road behind Suanya Resort, the European owned Koh Kood Beach Resort is the premier boutique resort in the Klong Mad. Very popular with couples and families alike, its uniquely designed cabanas sit high up on the hillside with great ocean views, swimming pool and a beach area. Rates range from 3,500bt to 4,500bt.
Beyond this and continuing down the quiet forest road, Ban Por Homestay has just a few bungalows at 1,000bt a night, whilst next door, Good View House is available as one unit from 4,000bt. Kood Life, across the way, is priced at 2,500bt upwards. The bungalows of Koh Kood Garden House, meanwhile, rate at 1,000bt a night.
Lastly, another couple of kilometres further on, Koh Kood Guesthouse by Nooky has adjoining fan rooms in a single building nestling back under the trees, 700bt a night.
