Vayna Boutique – Klong Prao Beach

Vayna Boutique is one of Koh Chang’s newest and most stylish 3 star boutique resorts.

Located by the sea in the middle of the delightful Klong Prao Beach, the resort comprises 48 rooms, swimming pool, spa and restaurant.

Rooms

Housed in one long, low-rise 3 storey building, the rooms are off a central corridor with stair access only. With floors as 1 to 3, where 1 is ground, the categories are as follows :-

• 10 x Simple Thai (3rd Floor, Double or Twin)- 45m², double or two single beds, garden view, balcony with outdoor seating.
• 24 x Local Thai (2nd or 1st, Double or Twin) – 45m², double or two single beds, garden view, balcony with outdoor seating.
• 11 x Tropical Thai (2nd or 1st, Double or Twin) – 45m², double or two single beds, garden view, balcony with outdoor seating.
• 3 x Tropical Thai (2nd or 1st, Double) – 48m², double bed, sofa set, dressinng area, sea view, balcony with outdoor seating.

Amenities in all the rooms include air conditioning, flat-screen TV, cable channels, refridgerator, mini-bar, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, outdoor seating area and WiFi access.

Ensuite bathrooms are equipped with shower, bathroom accessories and hair dryer.

Swimming Pool and Spa

In a wonderful position looking our over the ocean, the resort boasts one feature swimming pool, surrounded by decking with loungers. There’s a shallow area too for kids. The Beach Bar is off to one side, perfect for cocktails at sunset.

Massage near the pool is available from 10.00 till 19.00 daily – just ask at the reception.

Beach and Location

Occupying a prime location towards the southern end of Klong Prao Beach, all accommodation at Vayna is just a few metres from the sand and sea.

You can walk in either direction, with your immediate neighbours heading south Dewa, The Splash, Magic and at the far end, Choc Dee. A stroll in the other direction past Emerald Cove brings you to the canal. You can cross via Blue Lagoon‘s little pontoon bridge and then head all the way down to the other canal, with resorts including Centara Tropicana and Santhiya Tree.

Up on the street, about 7 minutes walk from the back of the resort, there’s not too much happening at this end of Klong Prao. Instead, hop in a songthaew taxi (minimum charge) to the main temple area, with its restaurants, 7-11, Lotus’s, pharmacies, massage, ATMs, motorbike rental, ticket agencies and the Tourist Police. Or with a 10 minute walk, you arrive in Kai Bae – take the beach route by cutting through Magic or Choc Dee, a much nicer jaunt.

Dining at Vayna

Located on one side of the pool, the ultra chic, Bamboo Vana serves a buffet breakfast in high season from 07.30 till 10.00. Outside of peak and at other meal times, it’s a full range of Thai (including some Trat specialities) or western food from the menu, 11.00 till 22.00.

If you fancy a change, you can easily head up to the Klong Prao main street as mentioned above – Babylon, Toscana, Kati, Moccaccino and Zest just some of the local restaurants and cafes on offer. Or in Kai Bae, look out for fusion Thai dishes at Khao Kwan, Mexican at El Barrio and modern European at Wine Gallery.

Our Verdict on Vayna Boutique

Sandwiched between Dewa and Emerald Cove, VJ Sereanity (sic) was an ordinary 2 star resort, of which the only positive note was the top notch beachside location. Well, that all changed at the start of 2020 and from the complete refit, rethink and relaunch, Vayna Boutique was born. Chalk and cheese barely covers it as this is now a superb small resort … and of course still in that fabulous spot by the sea.

The room interiors are each individually styled according to type; simple Thai reminiscent of a plush, comfortable hotel; local Thai, a twist on the traditional, with the bed low to the floor on a deck alongside the classic bamboo table and triangle cushions, rattan drying trays repurposed as wall decorations; tropical Thai, modern, crisp Bangkok house design.

The pool takes full advantage of the fabulous location, with plenty of vantage points to wile away the day. The restaurant too is a sophisticated affair which carries through the room styling – bamboo, light wood, hip light fixtures. The food, by the way, is pretty decent too.

To sum up, Vayna Boutique has absorbed the current chic Thai fashions to create a modern beach resort. Yes, it is all very IG and cool, but the attentive service and friendly staff also keep things down to earth – you’re made to feel very welcome. For couples seeking a bit of romance, privacy and time away from the crowds, it’s a very good option. Recommended and it can work too for young families.

The peaceful Klong Prao Beach is a lovely long 3km stretch of sand split by two canals at either end. With its concentration of large upmarket resorts right on the beach, it attracts families, couples and just a few independent travellers.

Around the central temple, it has a good mix of Thai and Western restaurants and plenty of shops, all a short walk only from the sea. It’s not a nightlife area. The area boasts the main waterfall at Klong Plu, elephant camps and cookery schools.
