Thailand Entry Requirements May 2022

From 1st May 2022, as Thailand emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic, its entry requirements have once again been further eased.

Double vaccinated travellers from all countries in the world can fly into the country or enter via a land border without the need for pre-flight tests, mandatory room quarantine or any additional tests on arrival.

Instead, they simply need to apply for the Thailand Pass pre-entry by uploading proof of vaccination and proof of $10,000 health insurance to the website (see below).

Unvaccinated travellers (over 18) must still quarantine at a SHA+ hotel for 5 days and take a mandatory RT-PCR test on Day 5. They can, however, avoid this quarantine and have the exact same freedom as the fully vaccinated by uploading a negative RT-PCR test (within 72 hours of their flight departure to Thailand) to the Thailand Pass system.

Vaccination Criteria

  • Full vaccination (2 doses) with vaccine approved by the Thai FDA. These are Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer/BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Sputnik, Covaxin and Sinopharm.
  • Full vaccination at least 14 days prior to your departure to Thailand and not more than 12 months before.

Vaccinated Travellers – Entry Requirements May 2022

  • You need proof of vaccination as outlined above.
  • Proof of travel insurance to a minimum of 10,000 USD medical coverage is required.
  • You do not need to submit any pre flight PCR tests or proof of hotel booking
  • There is no requirement for any tests once in Thailand. You are recommended to self-ATK test if unwell during your stay.
  • Children below 18 years of age traveling with a fully vaccinated parent or guardian can enter Thailand on the same entry scheme as the parent.
  • Children 12 – 17 must have proof of at least 1 vaccination dose if travelling alone but if with parents, they can be unvaccinated.
  • Visa or 30 day visa exemption – same as always – see visa page here.

Unvaccinated Travellers – Entry Requirements May 2022

  • You must have proof of a confirmed booking at an SHA+ or AQ hotel for a mandatory 5 day quarantine. This booking will include an RT-PCR Test on Day 5, also mandatory.
  • To avoid the mandatory quarantine and Day 5 test, unvaccinated travelers can upload proof of a negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours of their flight to Thailand via the Thailand Pass system (see below). With this approved, unvaccinated travellers can enter and travel freely, exact same as those fully vaccinated.
  • Proof of travel insurance to a minimum of 10,000 USD medical coverage is required.

Thailand Pass

The so-called Thailand Pass is the final stage in the application process.

Provided you meet the entry requirements, the pass is issued online once you submit the relevant paperwork as per the criteria listed above. The link is here. The site is now stating a turnaround of no more than 48 hours. It has to be within this timeframe if unvaccinated travellers are submitting pre-flight PCR tests to avoid the mandatory quarantine.

On acceptance by the Thailand Pass system, you will receive an approval email with an attached QR code. You present this at the Airport on arrival. We advise you also have paper copies of your vaccination and insurance proofs.
