The Dewa Koh Chang – Klong Prao Beach

The Dewa Koh Chang is one of the island’s most stylish 4 star resort hotels.

Located on the very popular Klong Prao Beach, The Dewa Koh Chang has 59 rooms and villas, set alongside a feature length swimming pool, with restaurants, bar, spa, coffee shop and beach terrrace.

Rooms at The Dewa

Accommodation comprises:-

  • 40 deluxe rooms – housed in a discreet two storey building that runs the length of the pool.
  • 17 villa, either garden or beach.
  • 2 loft-style, jacuzzi grand villas.

You can step straight out from the resort onto the beach and walk in either direction for hundreds of metres. The sea here is calm and when the tide is in, terrific for swimming.

The amenities in The Dewa rooms include a lounge area, individually controlled air-conditioning or fan, satellite TV, DVD, tea and coffee making facilities, mini-bar, in-room safe, hairdryer, shower and bath, bathroom accessories and wifi.

Dining at The Dewa

There are several in-house restaurants from which to choose. Overlooking the pool, the main one offers a buffet breakfast, followed by an all day menu of Thai and European dishes. By the beach, the sea terrace operates a day menu, nightly seafood bbq and sunset cocktails. Throw in the pool bar and coffee shop and you are not spoilt for choice.

The food and drink at The Dewa comes in for mixed reviews. The breakfast rates as adequate rather than excellent, the BBQ so so. Given its position, you can easily venture out down the sand to the cheaper beach cafes or pop into the competition at Emerald Cove next door. Go further down the beach and you can cut up the side of the canal to the excellent Blue Lagoon.

Alternatively, you can walk up to the main road, where you’ll find plenty of local restaurants, food stands, fruit markets and convenience stores. Kati Culinary, El Greco, Crust Bakery and Babylon (formerly the beach located Pilot) are just a few diners to look out for.

Or simply head out in a taxi to Kai Bae Beach, 10 minutes away if that. There, you can take your pick from the many choices on its bustling main street. Head here for the nightlife too.

Pool and Spa

The feature length swimming pool is a wonderful focus point for the whole resort, but The Dewa also faces onto one of Koh Chang’s best beaches.

Open daily from 09.00 to 19.00, The Dewa Spa is located on site, with massage, steam room, whirlpool and treatments,

The Dewa – Our Verdict

The cool, modern, sleek design of The Dewa, from its black swimming pool, its spacious rooms to its uniquely thatched villas attracts guests from across the board. Couples in particular will find it hard to beat as a quiet, romantic getaway.

It neither feels too large nor too corporate for this standard of hotel resort, yet it still succeeds in catering to all your needs. You don’t really need to step into the outside world other than to cool off in the sea.

Along with its sister resorts The Awa and The Splash, The Dewa Koh Chang sits comfortably among the top 4 Star resorts on the island.

The peaceful Klong Prao Beach is a lovely long 3km stretch of sand split by two canals at either end. With its concentration of large upmarket resorts right on the beach, it attracts families, couples and just a few independent travellers.

Around the central temple, it has a good mix of Thai and Western restaurants and plenty of shops, all a short walk only from the sea. It’s not a nightlife area. The area boasts the main waterfall at Klong Plu, elephant camps and cookery schools.
