Amber Sands Beach Resort – Dan Khao, East Coast
It comprises just 8 bungalows and a family room, arranged around a central swimming pool in wonderful mature tropical gardens. All bungalows are a/c, with ensuite bathrooms, king size beds, an additional fan, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, together with in room WiFi.
Overlooking the sea and open all day, the excellent in-house restaurant and bar serves Thai and western food. If you want to step out, there are two other resorts just along the beach in addition to the well reviewed The Souk restaurant.
Amber Sands is a wonderfully peaceful, laid back boutique resort, where guests come to escape the crowds on the west coast. Service and attention to detail are faultless, but most importantly, the management and staff also keep things simple. Everything is done with the minumum of fuss, which in turn maintains the resort’s super relaxed atmosphere.
Of course, guests may also want to get out and about, so the resort rents out kayaks to explore the local coastline or motorbikes to head off to other areas. Alternatively, the owners can organise car hire or you can charter one of the local taxis (songthaews) – around 500bt on a special charter to White Sand Beach.

Chivapuri Beach Resort – Bang Bao Beach (Klong Kloi) – Best Boutique Resorts
In a secluded spot at the far end of the west coast, Chivapuri Beach Resort is a sophisticated boutique resort of 20 or so rooms.
Its location is near perfect, under the trees right on the beach, with the sea and sand just a few steps from your room. If you want that utlimate beach holiday spot, where you can swim before breakfast in calm blue waters, Chivapuri Resort ticks the box
The rooms themselves, standard or deluxe garden, are over two floors in a series of traditional Lanna-roofed houses with polished wooden floors.
Each room comes with ensuite bathroom, balcony, LCD TVs, DVD players, mini-bar, in-room safe, rain water shower, hairdryer, bathroom accessories, wifi, refridgerators and coffee-tea makers. Bathtubs are available in the deluxe rooms. There is also a junior suite, family house and a beachside villa
Ideally situated between the rooms and the beach, you’ll find one of Koh Chang’s most scenic infinity pools, complete with its own loungers and pool bar. The in-house restaurant is open all day, with another separate coffee and bar area a few metres further down the beach. In-house massage is available.
You can also wander along Bang Bao Beach for other restaurants and a couple of laid-back bars. Taxis wait all day up by the bridge so you can easily hop to other areas and there are outlets for motorbike rental.

Warapura Resort – Lonely Beach – Best Boutique Resorts
Warapura Resort is located by the sea in the village area of Lonely Beach, the party centre of Koh Chang. Offering an oasis of calm in stark contrast to the busy, party zone outside its doors, the resort has around 25 bungalows, a small swimming pool and restaurant.
With a classic colour combination of pastels and whitewash, partnered with distressed wood floors and fixtures, the bungalows comprise the cheaper nice cottages at the back, through the mid priced cozy villas up to the more deluxe poolside and seaside villas. Each has ensuite bathrooms, balcony, in room WiFi and a very well reviewed complimentary breakfast.
Warapura’s in house restaurant, Kao Tha, offers up an eclectic menu of Thai and western choices, with a full bar on the deck. Cocktails at sunset are not to be missed.
As a welcome respite from the nightlife around the corner, the resort attracts a mixture of older backpackers and partygoers, who are happy to pay that bit more for tranquillity, cleanliness and comfort. Warapura provides all of this and more, with the service and staff top-notch. It’s about 10 minutes walk to the beach.

Harley Moon Hideaway – Lonely Beach – Best Boutique Resorts
Located in the heart of Bailan Beach on the west coast, Harley Moon Hideaway is one of Koh Chang’s newest boutique resorts but it has already garnered some of the best reviews on the island.
The resort has just 8 deluxe bungalows (and 2 cheaper rooms) which open out onto a unique red, layered swimming pool, all set in an immacutely kept lawned tropical garden, The in-house restaurant, open for breakfast and all day drinks, runs down one side of the grounds.
Each a/c room has been designed and finished to the highest specification with lovely high ceilings giving them space and light. King size beds, safe, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, storage, shelving, hanging space and an additional fan are standard. Small shaded outdoor sitting areas complete the picture.
Owned and run by a South African couple, their service and hospitality are second to none whether it be island advice, booking tours for you, jeep rides round the island, BBQs or getting everyone together for group evening beers, they are always on hand to help.
Bailan Beach is not famed for its sandy beach, but it’s very easy to nip to Lonely Beach, 7 minutes by motorbike or you can hail one of the frequent taxis to run you up to Bang Bao Beach.

Little Sunshine Resort – Klong Son – Best Boutique Resorts
The long running boutique resort, Little Sunshine is situated in the largest private development on the island, Siam Royal View, in Klong Son about 7 minutes from the ferry pier.
With a wonderful location right on the seafront, Little Sunshine itself consists of three adjacent villas, which have been divided up into standard and double rooms. Each has a king or queen size bed, ensuite bathroom, a/c, storage space, WiFi, safe, TV. There is also a 2 bedroom suite or for families, the resort offers a whole house sleeping 6, Both come with their own private plunge pools.
The resort itself has its own swimming pool, together with a small restaurant come coffee shop. The private beach runs across the front of the whole development, so no problem for when you want to take a dip in the shallow waters of this bay.
As a guest at the resort, you also get to use the facilities of Siam Royal View, which includes a magnificent 30 metre infinity pool, a pitch and putt golf course and The Beach Club.
Little Sunshine Resort sets out to provide impeccable service, combined with privacy and tranquillity away from the crowds. It achieves both effortlessly, hence its inclusion in our best boutique resorts list.
There is a shuttle which runs up to Klong Son Village for the shops and you can organise taxis to head to white Sand Beach for its shopping, restaurants and a night out.

Nest Sense – Lonely Beach – Best Boutique Resorts
The second Lonely Beach boutique to feature in our best of list, Nest Sense is an all together more luxurious addition.
At the far southern end of the village, the 18 room resort offers a combination of pool villas, seaview villas and deluxe rooms in a very private setting overlooking the sea.
Each a/c ensuite room has a TV, safe, tea and coffee-making facilities, fridge and WiFi. The 2 styles of villa, larger in size than the deluxe rooms, throw in a rain shower, cable TV and an extra pull-out bed. The pool villas top things off with their own private plunge pools.
The in-house restaurant and bar are open all day, whilst you can also wile away the hours in and around the infinity pool, with its stunning views out over the ocean.
You can walk to Lonely Beach in about 12 minutes. The resort can organise taxis, bikes and tours as required for other areas of the island.
Deluxe rooms start at 4,500bt in high season, seaview villas at 6,500bt and pool villas at 8,500bt (early bird specials).
Serenity Resort and Residences – Dan Khao, East Coast
Back on the east coast, 100 metres along from Amber Sands Resort on the same stretch of beach, Serenity Resort is an equally impressive offering.
In the well kept garden area, there are seven a/c ensuite bungalows, each boasting a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and WiFi. In addition, you can also choose from six 2 bedroom jacuzzi villas, with their own cooking facilities, lounges and roof terraces – perfect for families.
The resort is wonderfully peaceful, has great service and friendly staff, a highly recommended restaurant and bar, a swimming pool, kayaks, SUPs and motorbikes for rent – no need to say more other than it is also great value.
Depending on the dates in high season, the bungalows range from 2,300bt 3,250bt, whereas the villas go from 6,900bt to 9,500bt.
The Mangrove – Bailan Beach – Best Boutique Resorts
Very much under the radar, The Mangrove is a uniquely stylish and natural boutique resort of just 10 bungalows on Bailan Beach.
Constructed mainly from wood and bamboo with thatch roofs, the fan rooms use a traditional method of vaulted ceilings in combination with partially open side walls (with rattan blinds) to allow the air to circulate and keep the inside temperature down. Full length bamboo doors can also be fully opened up to take further advantage of those cooling sea breezes.
Inside the rooms themselves, you’ll find a queen size bed with mosquito net, storage areas and proper smooth hardwood floors, which are simply lovely to walk on. The bathrooms are tastefully designed in slate with a western toilet, mirror and sink area and a deliciously powerful cold water shower. Each room also has a outdoor terrace.
Perched on the hillside but nicely spaced out for privacy, the bungalows are connected by paths which wind through the trees down to the seafront. Here, you’ll find a vast shaded deck, strewn with hammocks and cushions and the restaurant built in the round. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner till 21.00.
The Mangrove has its own cute stretch of beach, ideal for swimming in the high season when tides are high.
This is a charming resort, very much one of a kind, where subtle design blends with the Koh Chang forest to create an ultra relaxed natural hideaway. The staff and service are as chilled out as the resort itself. WiFi is available in the common areas.
