Klong Son, the nearest Koh Chang town to the ferry piers, offers some of best villas on the island alongside luxury and boutique resorts, bungalows and motels.
It is a very local area, so there is not too much for the tourist outside of where they stay, with a few cheap eats, Thai style and a couple of 7/11’s but it continues to grow in popularity, as more visitors opt for a private villa as their accommodation choice.
Though Klong Son is separated from the rest of the west coast by the mountain and its switchback curves, taxis do still run back and forth very regularly. Renting a motorbike or car for a few days is also a good way to get about.

Northern End (Blue Haven Bay) – Klong Son Villas and Resorts
At the northern end of the Klong Son about 5 minutes from the main Ao Sapparot ferry pier and almost immediately after the Chinese temple, you’ll find the street leading down to Blue Haven Bay (formerly Siam Royal View). Follow this to the end and it opens out onto the largest private villas development on Koh Chang.
The Blue Haven Bay complex is split into two areas. A lovely beach, Chang Noi, runs across the front of the whole complex, but do note that the sea does retreat a very long way at low tide. You can connect between the two areas using a 500 metre track.
Beach Club Area
The principal and original area has its Klong Son villas laid out in three rows running back from the sea, with the 9 hole pitch and putt golf course behind.
- The 1st row has prime location on the beach.
- The 2nd row looks over the little access road onto the entrances of the front row villas. It has almost instant beach access through public walkways and sea views from the villas’ upper floors.
- The 3rd row is orientated the other way round so the villas’ pools and terraces look out over the golf course. It’s 2 minutes from the beach.
- There are further villas surrounding the golf course as well as a few fronting onto another small beach, know as Half Moon.
- The Beach Club, restaurant, reception and feature pool is at one end on the beach, with the Peninsula Resort next door.
Marina Area
Accessed by a small street opposite the PTT Garage at the start of Klong Son, the newer secondary area comprises:-
- A single row of large private villas on the sea alongside Shambala Beach Resort, with its feature pool, restaurant and villa (Beach Wing rooms).
- Behind it, 2 small condo blocks (top floor, Sea View Wing of the resort) and the Boat Wing accommodation. They back onto the canal (sea inlet).
- On the entry road, Marina Sands Resort and the marina itself.
What’s Available in the Blue Haven Bay Complex?
Villas
Though the properties are privately owned, many of these villas are available for short term rents and weekly rates. Expect to pay prices from around 8,000bt per night (three bedrooms, pool) to 15,000bt (4 bedroom, pool) – may have a minimum 3 to 5 nights stay in high season, will have reductions for weekly stays.
You can also rent a condo from around 35,000bt upwards, again for a week. All villas and condos can use the Blue Haven swimming pools.
Resorts
Within the complex, you’ll also find the following 4 resorts:-
- In the main section of the complex, the excellent boutique resort, Little Sunshine, has its main building on the seafront, a couple of villas just behind – double rooms from 3,700bt, its suite with private pool from 8,500bt (2 night minimum stay requirement in peak periods).
- Peninsula Resort combines deluxe beachfront rooms near the main swimming pool, with a selection of the Blue Haven style villas and pool villas, which themselves are either ocean facing or off the golf course, Prices start at 5,800bt a night in high season, 11,000bt upwards for the villas.
- Located in the secondary section next door to the marina, the aptly named Marina Sands Resort is a four storey hotel in 2 blocks. Its rooms start at 800bt for a mixed dorm through 3,000bt for standard double and 7,400bt for a 2 bedroom suite.
- Also in this area but nearer to the sea, Shambala Beach Resort offers stylish rooms either Sea View Wing at the top of a 3 storey condo style building or in the stylish building next door, the Boat House Wing or in a multi room beach villa with pool (formerly Laguna), now the Beach House Wing – prices from 2,500bt to 8,300bt (Boat House), 4,300bt to 6,300bt (Sea View) or 4,900bt to 5,900 (minimum 3 nights, Beach House).

Highly recommended, this boutique resort sits in a prime location on the beachfront at the northern end of the Blue Haven development. Its offers three style of rooms – Paradise, Golden Suite or Royal House – either in its original main area with its pool and restaurant (as per photo) or in a couple of villas which sit a row or so back by the golf course . You also get full use of the facilities at The Beach Club including their excellent infinity pool, kayaks, golf.
Peninsula Beach Resort

Also located in Blue Haven, this small resort offers junior suites, in a single storey block, with direct access onto the beach. It also has various villas throughout the development including Sunova (25D), Blue Chilli (61G), Solario (31A) and one in the very peaceful Half Moon Bay. As with Little Sunshine, you can access all the development’s facilities – dining at the Beach Bistro, spa, yoga and fitness on site and that 40 metre infinity pool with bar.

Klong Son Resorts, Bungalows and Motels
At the northern end on the little street which leads down to Blue Haven Bay, you will find some more than passable standard bungalows at Pukdee Bungalows, Villa Blue Sapphir and the older, 5 Star Resort. Assume around 700bt a night to 1,500bt but also look out for the excellent long term rental prices.
Riverside Resort is located by the bridge in the centre of Klong Son, motel style accommodation from 800bt a night.
Inland
Heading inland from that 7-11 towards the Ban Kwan Chang Elephant Camp and the waterfall, Phet Baan Suan has a decent selection of bungalows, prices from 700bt upwards. Further on, Evergreen Koh Chang Resort offers bungalows, doubles and family rooms as well as a swimming pool – 1,000bt for the standard and 1,700bt for the family option.
Towards the Sea
At the same 7-11 crossroads, but heading in the other direction towards the sea, you first pass the discreet entrance to Garden Lodge Guesthouse, a long established homestay from 500bt a night for the most simple option. Continuing on, Feel@Chill sits on the bend before the temple, bungalows from 1,800bt upwards. It has a small swimming pool.
Veering right just before the temple street, Havana Pool Villa is a summery looking motel, 6 or so rooms with pool and cafe, 1,500bt a night. The much older Family Guesthouse is right down at the end by the fishing community, another cheap choice aimed at Thai students and weekenders, starting from around 500bt.
Southern End
Back up on the main road heading out of town towards the mountain and White Sand Beach, Orchid Resort is an interesting snug resort normally booked out by Thai packages but it has some cheap rooms from 1,200bt.
Finally, Aiyapura Resort, takes prime position on the southern headland. A Koh Chang veteran, it comprises a vast array of rooms and villas with magnificent views out over the bay. Prices start at 4,000bt for the deluxe double, villa with garden view/sea view at 5,000bt/6,000bt up to 8,000bt for the two bedroom villa .
The Aiyapura
