Ultra Trail Unseen 2015 came to Koh Chang, with runners from all over Thailand in 13km, 35km and 66km races in the south east of the island at Salak Phet. We were there to see first hand how things panned out.

We cover in text and pictures the annual festival of Songkran - that's the mad water throwing one which Thais celebrate to bring in their New Year. We explain the Loy Kratong festival, a home tambun (blessing) and Chinese New Year.
Organised events include Ultra Trails , which brings over a 1,000 participants to the island every year for gruelling runs through the forests of Salak Phet and over to Wai Chek Beach . Distances range from 13km to an overnight endurance race at 100km.

Tambun – Blessing your Thai Home on Koh Chang
Our guide to a traditional Thai house blessing or Tambun. Monks from the local Koh Chang temple assemble to perform the rights, locals look on reverently and then everyone eats from plates and plates of specially prepared delicious food.
