Koh Laoya or Koh Lao Ya sits off the southern end of Koh Chang. It comprises three small islands, Koh Laoya Nai, Koh Laoya Klang and Koh Laoya Nok.

The Islands
The largest island, Koh Laoya Nai is about a 1 kilometre long and wide. Its interior forest looks down on a perfect long white sand beach, running the length of its eastern shore.
There are great views across to Long Beach on Koh Chang. At its top end, Koh Klum, just out of Bang Bao, sits on the horizon.
The main island was previously joined to the tiny Koh Laoya Klang by a wooden bridge. A storm ended that fun, however, so now all you can spot are a few stumps at low tide .
The forested rock of Koh Laoya Nok lies just a bit further south of them both.
The Resort – Koh Laoya
On the main island, Laoya Coco Island was the solitary resort but despite a major renovation during the pandemic, business has never picked up and so it remains closed.

Boat Trips to Koh Laoya
Easily reached from both Bang Bao or Salak Phet, you can drop in at Koh Laoya as one of the main ports of call on either a private boat trip or the 3 island join boat trip, normally combined with Koh Wai and Koh Klum. You snorkel off the top end or moor up for lunch on the boat and a walk on the beach.
Private Wooden Boat or Speedboat
If you have the budget, the most relaxed way to visit Koh Laoya is using a private boat trip, either by wooden boat or with a speedboat.
Prices are dependent on the boat size needed for your group and which other islands are combined with it. Assume a starting price around 7,500bt for the wooden boat (maximum 8 persons, Koh Wai and Koh Klum) and 9,000bt for the speedboat (maximum 4 persons, same islands).
You do also need to pay a fee of either 400bt per boat (wooden boat) or 200bt per person (speedboat) for Koh Laoya as it is a private island.
Join Wooden Boat or Speedboat – 3 Islands
The wooden boat to Koh Laoya, Koh Wai and Koh Klum is around 750bt per person, kids 4 to 9 at 1/2 price. This is for a full day with a 10.00 departure from the pier, back there by 16.00. It includes lunch and share taxi transfers on the west coast up to White Sand Beach, with collection/delivery to Klong Son (villas at Blue Haven Bay, Siam Royal View charged at an extra 100bt per person).
The join speedboat is 1,000bt for a 1/2 day, 09.00 to 12.30, with afternoons only available if demand exists. Child pricing and transfers policy are the same as the wooden boat.
Other Options
Hiring a launch out of Salak Phet is another option, with you then combining Koh Laoya with other nearby islands such as Koh Ngam or even Koh Wai. Prices would be on a case by case basis.
If you are the adventurous type, you can rent a kayak from a resort around the bay at either Salak Phet or Chek Bae for 300bt, or thereabouts, per half day. Bear in mind, though, Koh Laoya is a fair way out to sea. Only experienced kayakers should attempt it.
