Warapura Resort is one of Koh Chang’s best small boutique resorts.
Located in Lonely Beach, it comprises just 20 rooms, swimming pool and a restaurant lounge area. The village is laid out in a grid system around around two streets running parallel from the main road down to the sea. Warapura sits on the rocks at the end of the second of these, Soi 2.
Rooms at Warapura
Tightly packed around the small pool and along the coastline, accommodation is split into rooms and villas. Each offers either king-size or twin beds. There is also one 3 person villa and one with a simple roof terrace.
The resort design uses lots of distressed wood in combination with light and summery pastel colours to create an upmarket beach hut feel. The villas themselves, meanwhile, go for polished wooden floors with white washed walls – sparsely furnished but practical and comfortable.
In different configurations depending on the room chosen, amenities include individually controlled air-conditioning, LCD TVs, mini-bar, in-room safe, bath-tub and shower, hairdryer, bathroom accessories, wifi, refridgerators and coffee-tea makers.
Pool and Sea at Warapura
Warapura does have a cute swimming pool.
You cannot easily swim in the sea immediately in front of the resort, but this rocky area is still a lovely, peaceful spot in which to relax by the water. A walk down to the beach proper takes under 10 minutes.
Dining at Warapura
Complimentary buffet breakfast is served at its in-house Kao Tha restaurant by the sea. You can also choose from a full menu of western and Thai dishes.
The food receives generally good reviews and the restaurant itself is a chilled out spot, which pulls in a steady stream of outside customers.
Of course, you only need to step outside the resort to find yourself in the the heart of the village, with dozens of cheap alternatives. Kao Tha is also known for its excellent sunset chillout bar.
Warapura Resort – Our Verdict
Lonely Beach is the backpacker and party area of Koh Chang, so it attracts both the budget travelers and those holidaymakers out for a good time.
Warapura Resort meets the needs of those with a bit more to spend and those who desire accommodation a cut above the average for an area like this.
It’s in the heart of the action but the atmosphere inside is very private, a lovely contrast from the hurly burly of backpacker life just outside its doors. Recommended.

Lonely Beach is Koh Chang’s backpacker, traveller and party center. It’s a fun place to hang out, meet other people, let your hair down and enjoy life.
The area is in two distinct areas, beach and village. The excellent small beach, some 8 minutes walk from the village itself, has just 3 resorts. Back in the village, meanwhile, you’ll find a wide choice of accommodation as well as plenty of bars, restaurants, the odd coffee shop, tattoo parlours, massage and ticket agents. Think Khao San Road by the sea (on a much smaller scale) and you are not far off it.
Parties takes place regularly during the main season, so extraneous noise may sometimes be a problem in the wee small hours.
