The Emerald Cove Koh Chang is one of the island’s premier 4 star hotels.
Located on the very popular Klong Prao Beach, The Emerald Cove Koh Chang has 165 rooms, set in perfectly lawned gardens with a feature length swimming pool, several restaurants, bar, spa, coffee shop and beach terrrace.
Rooms at The Emerald Cove
Accommodation comprises:-
- Deluxe rooms. Deluxe ocean facing.
- Grand deluxe ocean facing
- One bedroom suites.
The rooms, all with balconies, are housed in a gently curving 3 storey building that flanks one side of the grounds. A wooden walkway joins the building with the swimming pool and the restaurant, bars areas which sit opposite.
The amenities in The Emerald Cove include individually controlled air-conditioning, satellite TV, DVD (in some rooms only), tea and coffee making facilities, mini-bar, in-room safe, shower and bath, bathroom accessories, wifi and balconey.
Pool and Sea
The 50 metre lap pool sits parallel to the ocean at the front of the resort with loungers surrounding it on wooden decking and others dotted about on the immaculate grass.
The resort is beachfront but you do need to walk a few metres in either direction to actually walk along the sand and wade into the sea. The plus side to this is The Emerald Cove feels delightfully secluded and private.
Spa
The Emerald Spa is located on site, with massage, steam room, and treatments, open daily from 10.00am to 19.00.
Yoga Retreats are sometimes available, enquire directly with the hotel.
Dining at The Emerald Cove
There are several in-house restaurants from which to choose. The main one, The Cove Terrace serves a full buffet breakfast, eggs cooked to order, followed by an all day menu of Thai and European dishes. Just Thai, open in the evenings only, offers a la carte dining, whilst Sassi is their Italian corner. There’s also Breezes Bar, with a happy hour and the pool bar, open daily for snacks and drinks.
Reviews for the food and drink at The Emerald Cove are generally very good, but if you fancy a change, then you can stroll next door to the The Dewa or on down the beach to the cheaper beach cafes.
Head up through Blue Lagoon using the pontoon bridge to street level and you are in the center of Klong Prao, with Kati Culinary and El Greco two excellent spots.
Or simply head out in a taxi to Kai Bae Beach, 10 minutes away if that, and take your pick from the many choices on its bustling main street. Head here for the nightlife too.
The Emerald Cove Koh Chang – Our Verdict
The Emerald Cove was formerly managed by the Amari chain, with the Marriot still due to come on board in at some point – no indication as to when.
The design is practical and corporate, rather than boutique or modern Bangkok. The rooms reflect the design, comfortable and clean, nothing too fancy. It may seem a bit staid for some tastes, but its overall standards and approach are unlikely to disappoint. Indeed, for most satisfied guests, it ticks all the boxes of what top 4 Star Koh Chang accommodation should be.

The peaceful Klong Prao Beach is a lovely long 3km stretch of sand split by two canals at either end. With its concentration of large upmarket resorts right on the beach, it attracts families, couples and just a few independent travellers.
Around the central temple, it has a good mix of Thai and Western restaurants and plenty of shops, all a short walk only from the sea. It’s not a nightlife area. The area boasts the main waterfall at Klong Plu, elephant camps and cookery schools.
