Koh Chang east coast resorts, villas, bungalows and guesthouses are scattered all the way along the road which runs from the ferry piers down to the turning to Salak Khok in the south of the island. They are centred at the two villages, Dan Khao and Dan Mai.
The accommodation is comprised of several small boutique style resorts, luxurious and deluxe villas, standard bungalow resorts catering both to tourists and Thai weekenders, guesthouses and Koh Chang’s only spa.
Prices given are for the peak period (not Xmas/New Year week) via booking sites, not the hotel websites. They are intended as guides only.

Staying on the East Side
If you do decide to stay on this side, you should be aware of the following:-
- The east coast beaches are few and far between and none are of the same quality as those over on the west coast.
- Getting about is tricky as the songthaew taxis only run this route 3 times daily each way. Additionally, the companies running the island activities, on the whole, do not collect from this side due to the extra distances and time involved.
- There is very little happening outside the east coast resorts themselves, with restaurants and shops in short supply. Nightlife is non-existent.
Putting that aside, the east coast is very local, undeveloped, less touristy, peaceful and laid back – its star attractions. You can overcome the lack of transport by renting your own motorbike or indeed car and the resorts are generally more than willing to help.
Dan Khao – Koh Chang East Coast Resorts, Villas, Bungalows
Just before Ao Sapparot pier (fast ferry) on a narrow lane leading to the fishing boats’ jetty, Baan Rim Talay and its 500bt cabins are in theory open – it may suit a backpacker who wants to be on the 1st ferry off the island. The older Thai resort, Mayuree Pink, used by Thai packages, sits about halfway between that pier and Centerpoint.
The Beach
About 3kms beyond Centerpoint, Dan Khao is the first area signposted on the east coast. With its narrow coarse red sand beach, it is home to 3 east coast resorts. Amber Sands, Sunrise Beach and Serenity Resort.
Rates at Amber Sands are from 3,570bt for the superior bungalow to 4,350bt for 2 bedroom family bungalow. Serenity has deluxe garden bungalows at 2,600bt, seaview at 3,900bt and one of its seafront villas from 4,250bt. Sunrise Beach Resort, 7 bungalows (poolside, family and beach side) and a fabulous swimming pool, has prices from 2,500bt to 3,500bt.
Also on this beach, Baan Mai Rim Fang Nam at the far end is a larger Thai style homestay, prices from 800bt a night but normally sold as packages. Chanmai Nai’Lay, next door, is another newer homestay offering standard bungalows by the sea.
Southern Area
Continuing on further in Dan Khao, Blessed has not reopened since the panademic, whilst Garden of Joy, an 18 room resort, has closed down completely.
Just before Garden of Joy, if you take the little land opposite the old petrol station down to the seafront, you’ll also find three well kept brushed concrete bungalows. At around 1,500bt a night but monthly deals available, they may suit a long termer. There are no other facilities.
The Villa Development
On the way out of Dan Khao, Baan Talay Thai is a oceanside private villa development, where many of the properties are available for holiday rent. Expect to pay from 3,500bt per night for 3 bedroom with a communal pool or 12,500bt for 5 bedroom with private pool, beachfront. All villas will have a minimum stay requirement of between 2 to 5 nights depending on the property/owner.
Sleeping 6 to 8, The Terrace, a modern one storey villa with its own pool, sits in the the same development, around 3,500bt a night (3 nights minimum).

Dan Mai and Salak Khok – Koh Chang East Coast Resorts, Villas, Bungalows
About five kilometers from Dan Khao, Dan Mai is the next town along. It’s the island’s administrative centre with the main hospital and police station, so once again staying here is very quiet and local.
North Dan Mai
About 3 km out before the village, Crown View Beachfront Resort has changed hands to become Grande Sun. Its a unique combination of either single bedroom houses (over 2 storeys) or larger 3 bedroom houses, together with an oceanside pool and restaurant . Rates are from 8,500bt to 22,500bt per night (mimimum stay 2 nights, peak).
Around the next corner, Siriporn Resort, a handful of bungalows by the sea with more opposite on the hillside, is very much aimed at Thai tourists – 2,190bt for 3 days/2 night package with snorkeling tour and motorbike. Further down also hillside, Fuengfah Hotel (Flower House) and again predominately for Thai weekenders, offers cheap rooms and bungalows from 990bt.
Another 50 metres on and the curious train carriages will form part of a new resort, hoping to open in late 2025.
Central Dan Mai
Once in the village itself, Baan Chid Talay sits next to the ocean with its 8 or so large house-like bungalows at 1,900bt a night upwards, very good value.
Next door, Beachfront Pool Villa with Apartment is a well appointed modern villa over two storeys with a small swimming pool. You can either rent the whole villa or during the week (not weekends), you can take just individual apartments.
South Dan Mai
At the the other end, Good View is owned and managed by Sylvan from Kai Bae. Aimed mostly at Thai tourists, their simple bungalows with seaview start at 1,200bt, perhapas worth a look.
In an altogether different vein, the privately owned Wave Villas are on the seafront just down from Good View. Luxurious Wave Villa is a holiday rental, with a minimum 5 to 10 night stay as part of their booking criteria and prices in peak starting at 30,000bt a night for 8 persons.
As you leave Dan Mai, Lung Chaloem Bungalows, also geared more to Thai weekenders than western holiday makers, has basic fan rooms from just 500bt a night, with other a/c larger bungalows also available at 1,200bt.
A few hundred metres further on, you’ll spot a small street leading to Home Bar, which lies around 3km inland in a beautiful location amongst the trees. It is both a basic homestay with rooms from 500bt a night.
Than Mayom
Continuing another few kilometres along the coast, Na Tara Resort, near to Than Mayom waterfall, is a Bangkok style boutique resort with prices in the 1,500bt to 2,500bt a night range (in peak), mainly attracting Thai weekenders. It has a great swimming pool and coffee shop too.
On the main road, the tiny Privacy Resort is Kiwi/Thai owned, a very well kept place with a handful of bungalows and a small swimming pool but like Na Tara, it is undoubtedly isolated. Rooms from 1,750bt a night to 2,000bt in peak season but deals available all year.
Next along, a clearly signed track leads seawards to the relaunched Kooncharaburi Resort. This is a huge sprawling place, boasting a wonderful pool, house like bungalows and a very peaceful location, but it remains hard sell due to the out of the way location. Prices are from 1,650bt a night for a deluxe villa through to 8,750bt for a pool villa (sleeping 6) but deals are most definitely to be had.
On the track to it, you’ll pass Flukies, another Thai homestay of wooden cabanas built around a lake, which itself teems with nightly phospherence.
Salak Khok
Finally, hidden away in the mangroves on the east side of Salak Khok, one of the very best east coast resorts, Spa Koh Chang, offers in-house detox programs, but you can still stay as a guest if you do not follow a course. Their cheapest oriental rooms at the rear are 1,450bt, the upper hillside doubles at 2,450bt, the lovely pool villa 3,450bt .
