Bailan Beach sits just over the hill from Lonely Beach but it’s another world, a quieter, more local side to Koh Chang, with plenty of mid range accommodation via its only hotel, The Mercure Hideaway or small resorts, combined with cheaper traveller bungalows.
Despite having no real beach except a self-made one at the southern end and a tiny stretch at the northern end, the area still ticks along rather nicely.
In its own understated way, Bailan serves as both a bolthole from Lonely Beach but also as an area on the island, which offers something a bit different from the normal beach holiday.
Prices given are for the peak period (outside of Xmas/New Year period) via booking sites, not the hotel websites. They are intended as guides only.

Bailan Beach Bungalows
Northern End
As you enter the village and drop down the hill, you’ll find a row of various mid-range small bungalow resorts. There’s nothing particularly fancy, but you will get good value bungalows, 800bt to 2,500bt a night, in a quiet garden setting, all with swimming pools (except Green Land).
Lazy Republique and Cocoon are the pick of the bunch but you can get also good deals at Faye Orchid Resort and Kamrai Resort next door, both long running older spots or opposite at Green Land Resort and Baan Sanook .
Also at this end, Vanara, continues to upgrade offering a combination of newly renovated bungalows alongside the old wooden style. Prices are from 1,000bt a night.
Across the road, Jungle Garden, still has that old beach hut style – wood, bamboo, on stilts and with thatch roofs, ensuite – but it does it very well, stylish bathrooms in particular. Prices start at 600bt rising to 1,000bt. In the same area, 3 Trees Guesthouse (also known as Koh Chang Backpackers Hostel) has 8 rooms in total – 500bt upwards.
Both Bailan Bay Resort and The Mangrove have not reopened since the pandemic.
By The Sea (Central)
In the centre of the village down the little street leading to the sea, Red Moon Hideaway offers modern, clean rooms finished to a high quality at around 2,200bt, all set in a lovely garden with a truly unique red swimming pool.
Behind Harley Moon Hideaway, Fresh is not finished yet but 4 of the new cabins, a house with rooms and the cafe are up and running. Prices start at 1,000bt a night upwards. Next along and on the ocean, Green Cottage has older style bungalows in 3 rows, with a swimming pool, prices from 1,200bt a night. It’s the same owners as Green Land Resort above.
If you follow the street round, one of best of the Bailan Beach resorts, Elephant Bay Resort has a prime location by the sea – colourfully painted little beach huts with a swimming pool, from 1,100bt at 1,800bt a night for standard and twin or larger suites at 2,800bt.
At the far end and also on the ocean, Kohchang 7 has an eclectic combination of fan huts and a/c cabanas, nothing fancy but cheap at from 400bt upwards.
Southern End
The Austrian owned Lucky Gecko Garden, which sits on the corner of The White House entrance, has just 6 bungalows, a/c and well maintained – 1,900bt a night. Incidentally, along the small street that leads to it from The Happy Turtle, there’s a few bungalows and small houses to rent, worth a look if you are thinking of staying a few months. The Happy Turtle itself has a couple of rooms at the rear but its cafe and restaurant have not opened in the last 3 years.
Oppposite the turning down to The White House, tucked away about 100 metres up, Blue Garden Resort changed hands in 2022 and that too has not re-opened since.
Finally, Rock Inn has a selection of rooms up to 1,200bt per night on the hill overlooking the entrance to Mercure Hideaway.
