Nest Sense – Lonely Beach – Best Boutique Resorts

The first Lonely Beach boutique resort to feature in our best of list, Nest Sense is a luxurious affair.

At the far southern end of the village, the 18 room resort comprises two rows of pool villas and a small block of deluxe rooms at the rear. All sit in a very private tiered area overlooking the sea.

Each a/c ensuite room has a TV, safe, tea and coffee-making facilities, fridge and WiFi. The 2 styles of pool villa, larger in size than the deluxe rooms, throw in a rain shower, cable TV and an extra pull-out bed.

Dining and Location

The in-house restaurant and bar are open all day, whilst you can also wile away the hours in and around the infinity pool, with its stunning views out over the ocean.

You can walk to the actual Lonely Beach in about 12 minutes, with the village neaer. Lonely Beach has a wide array of restaurants and nightlife. The resort can organise taxis, bikes and tours as required.

In Summary

Nest Sense is one of Koh Chang’s best boutique resorts but it also has a charming lack of showiness about itself, instead letting the inherent sleek design and superb location do the talking.

Little Sunshine Resort – Klong Son – Best Boutique Resorts

The long running boutique resort, Little Sunshine is situated in the largest private development on the island, Blue Haven (formerly Siam Royal View), in Klong Son about 7 minutes from the ferry pier.

With a wonderful location right on the seafront, Little Sunshine comprises two adjacent villas, which have been joined together to make the main resort. Within this small complex, you’ll find one of the Paradise double rooms (upstairs) and one of the Golden Suites (downstairs) as well as the restaurant and cafe, the reception area and the swimming pool.

Separate to that, another villa overlooks the golf course which has a double or twin Paradise Room upstairs and downstairs, a Golden Suite, complete with kitchen, living area and plunge pool. Finally, you can rent a whole villa, the Royal House, with one by the sea or one by the golf course. Both of these comprise 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen area, living area, separate toilet and plunge pool.

Amenities in all the rooms include a king or queen size bed, doubles or twins, ensuite bathroom, a/c, storage space, WiFi, safe, TV.

Dining, Facilities and Location

The resort itself has its own swimming pool, together with a small restaurant come coffee shop. The private beach runs across the front of the whole development, so no problem for when you want to take a dip in the shallow waters of this bay.

As a guest at the resort, you also get to use the facilities of Blue Haven, which includes a magnificent 30 metre infinity pool, a pitch and putt golf course and The Beach Club and in the marina section, Shambala Beach Bar.

There is a shuttle which runs up to Klong Son Village for the shops and you can organise taxis to head to White Sand Beach for its shopping, restaurants and a night out. Having a rental car or motorbike would give you more flexibility.

Little Sunshine Resort sets out to provide impeccable service, combined with privacy, no fuss and tranquillity away from the crowds. It achieves both effortlessly, hence its inclusion in our best boutique resorts list.

Amber Sands – Dan Khao, East Coast

Located on the east coast in Dan Khao, 4 kilometres or so down from the main ferry pier, Amber Sands Beach Resort is a small compact resort on the beach.

It comprises just 8 bungalows and a family room, arranged around a central swimming pool in wonderful mature tropical gardens. All bungalows are a/c, with ensuite bathrooms, king size beds, an additional fan, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, together with in-room WiFi.

Dining, Facilities and Location

Overlooking the sea and open all day, the excellent in-house restaurant and bar serves Thai (Issan speciality) and western food. There’s live music too most evenings from the in-house band. If you want to step out, there are two other resorts just along the beach and a couple of cheap diners up on the street.

The resort rents out kayaks to explore the local coastline or motorbikes to head off to other areas. Alternatively, the owners can organise car hire or you can charter one of the local taxis (songthaews) – around 500bt on a special charter to White Sand Beach.

In Summary

Amber Sands is a wonderfully peaceful, laid back boutique resort, where guests come to escape the crowds on the west coast. Service and attention to detail are faultless, but most importantly, the management and staff also keep things simple. Everything is done with the minumum of fuss, which in turn maintains the resort’s super relaxed atmosphere.

Rooms in high season start at 3,750bt per night for the Superior Bungalow, 4,000bt for Beach House (Upstairs or downstairs) and 4,350bt for the two bedroom Family Bungalow .

Chivapuri Beach Resort – Bang Bao Beach (Klong Kloi) – Best Boutique Resorts

In a secluded spot at the far end of the west coast, Chivapuri Beach Resort is a sophisticated boutique resort of 20 or so rooms.

The rooms themselves, standard or deluxe garden, are over two floors in a series of traditional Lanna-roofed houses with polished wooden floors.

Each room comes with ensuite bathroom, balcony, LCD TVs, DVD players, mini-bar, in-room safe, rain water shower, hairdryer, bathroom accessories, WiFi, refridgerators and coffee-tea makers. Bathtubs are available in the deluxe rooms. There is also a junior suite, family house and a beachside villa.

Dining, Facilities and Location

Ideally situated between the rooms and the beach, you’ll find one of Koh Chang’s most scenic infinity pools, complete with its own loungers and pool bar. The in-house restaurant, Coco Chacha, is open all day, with another separate coffee and bar area a few metres further down the beach. In-house massage is available.

You can wander along Bang Bao Beach for restaurants and a couple of laid-back bars. Taxis wait all day up by the bridge so you can easily hop to other areas and there are outlets for motorbike rental.

In Summary

Chivapuri is perfect for couples or indeed a family wanting a quiet, private resort which combines high standards of room with excellent overall service.

Its location is near perfect, under the trees right on the beach, with the sea and sand just a few steps from your room. If you want that ultimate beach holiday spot, where you can swim before breakfast in calm blue waters, Chivapuri Resort ticks the box.

Serenity Resort and Residences – Dan Khao, East Coast

Back on the east coast, 100 metres along from Amber Sands Resort on the same stretch of beach, Serenity Resort is an equally impressive offering.

Closely packed and conencted by paths, the resort comprises a/c ensuite Deluxe Bungalows, either with garden or ocean view. Each bungalow has a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and WiFi as standard.

For families and groups of friends, Serenity also offers a small selection of Two Bedroom Villas and 3 Bedroom Villas, which are in two parallel rows running from the road to the beachside pool. Perfect for either families or groups of friends, each villa boasts a well equipped kitchen, ensuite bathrooms for each bedroom and a large and comfortable sitting room. Their unique selling point are the roof terraces, which have superb seaviews, a BBQ, ample loungers and a shaded area at the rear. Some even have jacuzzis or mini plunge pools.

Dining, Facilities and Location

Well recommended for its Thai, western food and sunset cocktails, the restaurant and bar sits beachside. The small swimming pool is in front of the villas section but open to all guests. You can rent kayaks, SUPs and motorbikes.

In Summary

The resort itself is wonderfully peaceful, with great service and friendly staff and management, whilst the villas are excellently appointed and make an ideal choice for friends or families. Yes, you are a little away from things over on the east coast but either by renting a car or just using the songthaew taxis, it’s easier enough to get over to the more tourist areas.

Outside of peak, rates for the Deluxe Bungalows are between 2,600bt and 3,900bt (ocean view), 4,500bt for Two Bedroom Villa with Plunge Pool, 4,750bt for Beachfront Villas, 5,500bt (not oceanfront/oceanfront) for 3 Bedroom Villa. The Villa at Serenity, privately owned but managed by the resort, is just under 8,000bt outside of peak.

Vayna Boutique – Klong Prao Beach – Best Boutique Resorts

At the southern end of Klong Prao and right on the beach, Vayna Boutique has emerged over the last few years as one of Koh Chang’s most popular and most stylish boutique resorts.

The rooms – Simple Thai, Local Thai, Tropical Thai (3 with seaview) – are ground, 1st or 2nd floor on either side of a central corridor which leads from front to back of a two storey building. A delightful passageway housing rattan chairs and covered with foliage and plants, runs alongside.

Amenities in all the rooms include air conditioning, flat-screen TV, cable channels, refridgerator, mini-bar, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, outdoor seating area and WiFi access.

Dining, Facilities and Location

The accommodation building looks down on the feature swimming pool, with its loungers, decking and excellent views out over the sand and sea. Vayna also has a jacuzzi and massage.

Open daily, Bamboovana sits to one side of the pool, offering Thai and western cuisine, with a buffet breakfast and a nightly BBQ. The separate beach bar serves from 11.00 to 23.00.

You can step straight out from the resort onto Klong Prao Beach, Koh Chang’s longest stretch of sand at around 3 km. Dewa and Dinso Resort are your immediate neighbours or head north along the sand for the beach bar/restaurants at Family, Pilot, Mandalay and Lin’s. If you continue from them up the canal, you can reach the main road in the central section of the village, complete with its wide array of restaurants.

If you walk out the back of the resort up to the main road, there’s a handful of dining options, Italian, seafood and Thai among them. Kai Bae is only ten minutes away, great for a bit of nightlife and also full of recommended restaurants.

Klong Prao Beach is very tidal so the sea does retreat a long way at certain times – taking a dip is not so easy.

In Summary

Vayna Boutique is a romantic boutique resort that would suit couples rather than families. Its rooms are simple, clean and uncluttered, there are some lovely desogn flourishes throughout the resort and it has a terrific location on the beach. For a few days R & R, it’s definitely one to put high on your list of possibles.

Nanai Resort – Salak Phet, South East Coast

Hidden away in Salak Phet in the south east corner of the island, Nanai Resort is the newest addition to Koh Chang’s boutiques. Opened in late 2023, it’s a tiny spot of just 4 rooms, interior lounge, outdoor terrace and feature length pool – all very tastefully decorated, modern and clean.

The rooms are the standard double (25m² with small outdoor terrace), same with garden view (28m² with small outdoor terrace) or the pick of the bunch, the two pool view ones (30m² with small outdoor seating), which are just to the side of the back terrace.

Amenities in all the rooms include air conditioning, fan flat-screen TV (with streaming service), refridgerator, tea and coffee making facilities, outdoor seating area and WiFi access.

Dining, Facilities and Location

Open daily for breakfast through dinner, food is a combination of Thai and western all cooked up by Eddy (ex The Souk, which has now closed down) and served on the terrace overlooking the pool.

The resort and pool look out onto a sea inlet, with the mangroves as their backdrop. Indeed continue around the corner from here and you reach the excellent mangrove walkway or Red Bridge as it is known.

Kayaks and bicycles are on hand so you can explore the local area, a traditional island village with little tourism. The owner will also sort out motorbike rental for you so you can explore further afield such as the undeveloped beaches at Long Beach or Wai Chek or dine out at the famous Salak Phet Seafood.

In Summary

Nanai is a tiny resort where the owners take great care to make you feel welcome and help you explore the area.

It’s charm lies in the peace and quiet, a world away from the tourism on the west coast. Whilst definitely best for couples or single independent travelers, it still won’t suit everyone due to the isolation and lack of both action and a readily accessible beach over on this side of the island. Still, if you book in full knowledge of this, then Nanai makes for a class retreat, a great addition to the island’s boutique resorts.
