Bang Bao Beach resorts and bungalows are slowly but surely increasing in number as the measured development of the area continues.
You will find something to suit all budgets, from cheap backpacker rooms through more standard bungalows and right up to a pricier boutique resort.
With the sea no more than 7 minutes walk from the furthest rooms, this area is ideal for a proper beach holiday – peaceful and laid back for couples who want to escape for a few days but good for families too with nice shallow safe waters and a few activities like kayaking and Stand-Up Paddling to keep the kids busy. There are good value beach restaurants all along the sand and even one or two bars for the evenings.
Hat Sai Noi is the tiny beach just before Bang Bao Beach, where you will also find some very decent accommodation.
The Area
Bang Bao Beach does fill up during the day with people coming over from Bailan Beach, Bang Bao and Lonely Beach. The area also sits at the end of the line on the west coast of Koh Chang, so having your your own transport makes life a lot easier. Without it, you are vulnerable to the capricious whims of those taxi drivers and their rate cards.
Incidentally, the area is also know as Klong Goi Beach or Klong Kloi.

Bang Bao Beach Resorts
At the southern end of the beach, the excellent boutique Chivapuri Beach Resort is the pick of the Bang Bao Beach resorts, with large Lanna style villas under the trees and a swimming pool looking out over the sea. Its rates start at 4,000bt and rise to 10,000bt for a family room with seaview.
Next door, The Tropical (Beach Resort) comprises stylish brushed concrete rooms scattered about by the sea – 2,500bt for a double at the back, 3,600bt for a villa on the front. The restaurant is not serving a full menu so you can also head to its sister resort, Chivapuri , next door for food.
Back past the bridge on the creek, Chaipura Resort offers something a bit different with large houses spilling down the slopes towards the water. It’s just a two minute walk to the sand, rooms from 2,700bt.

The Tropical (Beach Resort)

Brushed concrete stylish villas with thatch roofs, a/c and bathroom ensuite, situated either on the beach or back in the trees at the southern end. Restaurant breakfast only or head to Chivapuri (sister resort), boat trips, kayaks.
Bang Bao Beach Bungalows
At the the top end near the bridge, The Beach, with its cafe restaurant by the sea, has a small selection of a/c rooms at the back, 2,000bt for double to 2,900bt for the deluxe family.
Alongside, Yu Yu Golden Beach, same set-up of restaurant and deck chairs by the sea, has a much wider variety of brightly painted green rooms, including a row which look out onto the creek and across to Chaipura Resort on the other side. A seaview bungalows is 1,700bt, family room on the lake at 2,500bt, cheaper options available too.
Further down, Sea Paradise, home to Stand Up Paddling, has a few standard rooms behind, prices at 1,750bt a night.
Klong Kloi Cottage in the centre of the beach is a local favourite with simple cute huts from 500bt for fan and bathroom, with plenty more styles, more expensive, in the trees at the back. Next door, the long established Bang Bao Beach Resort has mostly a/c rooms at 1,800bt to 2,600bt.
Behind The Beach
On the tracks behind the beach, you’ll also find plenty of cheap choices.
Follow Yu Yu’s bungalows to the end of its row on the creek and shortly after the entrance down to Sea Paradise and the reggae bar Ginger Home, you hit the Welsh run Lakchai Resort. It has 6 or so fan bungalows at 1,1000bt per night, with restaurant also by the water.
Continue round the bend to the crossroads at the main track and opposite, running behind the hedge, Yak Bungalows has a row of simple bungalows at 500bt to 600bt, fan and bathroom inside. The trail past them brings you out at the back of Klong Goi Cottages.
Heading left at the mini crossroads, OYO Treehouse Cottages has shut down. Another 50 metres past it brings you to a small fork.
The left trail leads you past a couple of simple huts at Mandala opposite its restaurant and behind that, the rooms and bungalows of Family. Lonely Groove is next along and at the far end, hidden away right in the mangroves, Freedom Home. Expect prices from 450 to 650bt upwards for fan rooms, more for a/c.
Heading back towards the Road
Ignoring that fork and following instead the main trail which leads all the way to the main road at the back of Bang Bao Beach, you pass Seree Bungalows (the old Santisook), which is now under new owners with more of a Thai beach hippie vibe – 600bt for fan.
At the dusty junction, the right turn takes you to Bang Bao Beach Resort, Chivapuri and The Tropical, whilst heading left and out towards the main road, you’ll find Green Garden, 750bt a night.
Back on the main road, at the very far end end of the bay, Koh Chang Boat Chalet, the latest name for what was formerly Grand Lagoon and then Aunchaleena Bachfront Resort, used to attract Russia and Chinese tour groups, but they have dropped away completely to leave a fabulously surreal resort folly. It is tantalisingly close to being the hippest of the Bang Bao beach resorts without knowing it.

In the Back Area, near the Beach
At the end of the track, backpacker hangout of basic rooms, double rooms, family rooms, all with fans, some with shared bathroom, some bathroom inside, some looking onto the small (dry) river behind. Food and drink in restaurant area or bar area, other chill-out areas, small fun plunge pool with loungeres. Wifi, all very laid back and relaxing, old style.
Accommodation on Hat Sai Noi
In addition to the Bang Bao Beach resorts, you’ll also find a fair selection of places to stay on or near Hat Sai Noi Beach, which is about a kilometre before Bang Bao Beach (Klong Goi) proper.
Rasta Beach offers basic bungalows in reggae colours hidden away on the coast just after Tranquillity Bay, rates as low as 350bt.
Next door, Secret Garden continues to evolve, with a rooms and bungalows on the rocks or the hill behind – from 2,000bt to 4,000bt a night (minimum stay 2 nights in season).
As you approach Hat Sai Noi, Home Hostel on the corner has bunks for 320bt, whilst around the corner, BeachBox @ Koh Chang, are indeed compact box style rooms, double fan at 1,000bt, queen a/c at 1,800bt, family room at 2,700bt.
On the Beach
On the sand itself, Indie Beach is the pick of the bunch with its set of stylish cottages built up the slope – 2,600bt for standard seaview, family bungalows at 4,200bt to 4,500t.
Next door to Ido Ido Bar, Maya Guesthouse has double rooms over three floors looking out over the sea at 1,200bt, shared bathroom and 1,700bt ensuite.
You can walk along the beach and rocks from one end to the other in a few minutes, walk to Bang Bao Beach proper in 5 minutes and to Bang Bao Pier in around 10.
Indie Beach

Expanded in 2023, the resort now has around 18 chic, a/c ensuite bungalows of different sizes, together with some family rooms and a beach house (two bedrooms), all laid out down the gentle slope from the road to the sand at Hat Sai Noi.
Throw in the beach cafe, weekly live music and morning yoga and you get a very relaxed spot, popular with hip couples and young families. Indie has an offshoot restaurant Indie Raw and a cafe/bar Indie Social alongside one another on the main road at the northern end of Kai Bae.
