Located on the way to and near the local fishing village, Klong Mad resorts and bungalows comprise some of most under-the-radar spots to stay on the island.
Despite there onely being a tiny beach, prices are perhaps a little lower here than elsewhere on the coast, so it’s well worth considering for those on a budget. Besides, you can also easily rent a motorbike, with the superb sand at Ao Tapao 10 minutes drive at most.
Prices given are for the peak season (not Xmas/New Year period) via booking sites, not the hotel websites. They are intended as guides only.

In the Village
Down by the sea with that small stretch of beach in front, the old style Suanya Resort, attracts mainly Thai weekenders to its combination of huge villas and smaller bungalows. Prices start at 1,700bt a night up to 5,000bt for the seafront villa.
Head on round from there into the fishing village proper and in amongst the locals’ houses on the jetties around the sea inlet, you’ll find a few homestays, Klongmad Hostel (two buildings), Canale Boutique, Good View and Rabieng Talay. Here, rooms go from about 1,300bt to 3,900bt.
If staying around the village walkway, please note that speedboats come and go all day, mornings especially.
On the approach road into the village itself, Wave-F is a long running resort with around 15 bungalows in competing styles, prices from 1,500bt to 2,000bt, with Yu Guesthouse shortly after, just a couple of rooms from 750bt a night. The cute and stylish Baan Bua Cottage, sits just after the bridge, offering half a dozen bungalows from 3,500bt a night.
Heading out of the Village
Leaving the area via the road behind Suanya Resort, the European owned Koh Kood Beach Resort, popular with couples and families alike, sit high up on the hillside with great ocean views, swimming pool and a beach area. It serves up a mix of uniquely designed cabanas on the lawn or double Thai style houses nearer the sea. Rates range from 4,400bt upwards.
Beyond this and continuing down the quiet forest road, Ban Por Homestay has just a few bungalows at 1,000bt a night, whilst next door, Good View House is available via Koh Kood Garden as one unit from 4,000bt . The actual bungalows of Koh Kood Garden House, meanwhile, rate at 1,000bt a night, with some glamping tents another option. The 4 bedroom and 2 bathroom house of Kood Life, across the way is available via its Facebook page.
Along the next stretch of two to three kilometres, Good Time Resort offers 10 fan rooms in the garden behind its noodle restaurant, with prices here from 900bt.
Pitched at Thai weekenders, Koh Kood Forest Camp (formerly Koh Kood Guesthouse by Nooky) has adjoining fan rooms at 1,200bt a night in a single building nestling back under the trees. Similarly, the aptly named Small Guesthouse provides a handful of simple bungalows from 700bt, restaurant on site.
