Speedboats – How to Get to Koh Mak

3 companies, Panan, Leelawadee and Koh Mak Ferry provide the service from Laem Ngop Pier to Koh Mak, with daily departures at 10.30 (busy months only), 11.30, 12.30, 14.00 and 16.00. Journey time is 50 to 60 minutes.

Returns start from 08.30, 09.00 (busy months only), 10.00, 11.30 and the last boat at 13.30. 

Prices are fixed at 550bt per person, kids over 130cm at adult price, 100cm to 130cm at 350bt, under 100cm free.

In holiday periods such as New Year, Chakri Day, Songkran, May Day, Coronation Day, the boat companies may run additional services.

Always check ahead as the timetables do change in the low season (May to September) as some boats are dropped.

Laem Sok Pier to/from Koh Mak

From Laem Sok Pier, the main Koh Kood boat companies – Koh Kut Express, Seudamgo and Boonsiri – also run daily services to Koh Mak.

Koh Kut Express’ speedboat takes 30 minutes,  with departure times of 11.45 and 16.00, carrying on to Koh Kood for arrival there at 12.15 and 17.00 respectively. Returns are at 09.30 (from Koh Kood at 09.00) and 14.30 (from Koh Kood at 14.00) – 500bt per person, kids 5 and over full price, 4 and under free. Note, this service does not run in the low season.

Seudamgo offers a mini catamaran, also calling in at Koh Mak on its way through – 14.30 departure for arrival at Koh Mak by 15.30 and Koh Kood at 16.00. The return is at 08.30 from Koh Kood, 09.00 from Koh Mak and reaching the mainland at 10.00 – 550bt per person each way, child policy as above.

Boonsiri also has its catamaran from Laem Sok to Koh Mak at 10.30 and 15.00 over, 09.00 and 13.00 back, 550bt per person, child price as above. Please note times may change in low season, 1/5/25 to 30/9/25.

Island Hopping

Koh Chang Express’s speedboat, 500bt from Koh Mak to Koh Kood (30 minutes), is at 10.30 and 13.30 daily or 11.30 or 14.30 going the other way. To Koh Chang from Koh Mak, it’s at 12.00 or 15.00, 600bt (30 minutes) or at 10.00 or 13.00 from Koh Chang. Kids 5 and over are full price. Stops end of May to end of September.

Kai Bae Nor Nou’s speedboat service is at 10.00 from Koh Mak to Koh Kood (under an hour), 600bt, 11,00 from Koh Kood to Koh Mak. It’s at 12.00 from Koh Mak to Koh Chang, 800bt (1 hour) and 09.00 from Koh Chang to Koh Mak. Kids 4 to 6 are 1/2 price, 3 and under free. Stops end of April to start of November.

Boonsiri’s catamaran service is at 10.00 and 14.00 to Koh Kood (400bt, 30 minutes) or 11.30 and 15.00 to Koh Chang (600bt, 1 hour). It leaves Koh Kood to Koh Mak at 11.00 and 14.30 and from Koh Chang to Koh Mak at 09.00 and 13.00. Kids 5 and over are full price, 4 and under free. Runs all year though may revert to speedboat if numbers are low.

Koh Mak and Koh Kood Extra

Koh Kut Express’s speedboat is at 12.15 and 16.30 from Koh Mak to Koh Kood, back at 09.00 and 14.00  – 500bt per person. Stops from June to September.

Seudamgo is at 15.30 from Koh Mak to Koh Kood and 09.00 in reverse, 400bt per person.

Trat Airport and Flights

FIying down to Trat Airport with Bangkok Airways from Suvarnabhumi Airport is the quickest way (and most expensive) to get to Koh Mak.

When on the winter timetable from 26/10/25 to 28/3/26, the  morning flight, PG301, lands at 09.10, so you can use this to connect to the 10.30 Leelawadee (if running, high season only, 550bt per person) or the Koh Mak Ferry speedboat at 11.30 (550bt per person), both from Laem Ngop which is 20 minutes from the Airport.

You could also head to Laem Sok Pier, 50 minutes travel time, for the 10.30 Boonsiri (500bt per person) or the 11.45 Koh Kut Express (500bt per person). Note for Laem Sok boats, you need to be at the respective office at least 30 minutes before departure.

The lunchtime flight, PG305, lands at 13.40 with the winter timetable. You cannot make the 14.00 Leelawadee so opt for the 16.00 Panan instead, 1 hour or head to Laem Sok Pier for the 16.00 Koh Kut Express.

The final flight of the day, PG307, landing at 17.15 (all year), will not make any connection, meaning an overnight stay in Trat or Laem Ngop itself or Laem Sok. Boats the next morning are as above. 

When on the summer timetable from 29/3/26 to 24/10/26, the PG301 lands at 09.15 so no change to the above planning. PG305, however, lands at 13.10 so you can easily make the Leelawadee at 14.00.

Returning to BKK, the morning flight, PG302, leaves too early (09.40 or 09.45 summer timetable) for any connection from Koh Mak.

For the return lunchtime flight, PG306, the flight leaves at 14.10 on the winter timetable (26/10/25 to 28/3/26), so take the Leelawadee speedboat at 11.30 from the island.

Once on the  summer timetable (29/3/26 to 24/10/26), the flight switches to 13.10, so you use the 10.00 Panan, docking at 11.00.  

The Panan at 13.30 (550bt) with a 14.30 arrival at Laem Ngop Pier allows you to connect to the afternoon flight, PG308, which departs at 17.45 (17.50 summer timetable).  Or you could use the Koh Kut Express at 14.30 (not running June to September) to Laem Sok Pier, docking at 15.00 – that’s 500bt per person.

To travel between Trat Airport and Laem Ngop Pier (or to/from Laem Sok Pier), you can use a private transfer or an open sided  songthaew share taxi – there are no share minibuses operating this route. We can organise the private transfer for you, please email us at [email protected].

Public Bus – How to Get to Koh Mak

Public transport is the cheapest option on how to get to Koh Mak.

You can use the 999 bus direct to the Koh Chang pier at Ao Thammachat just up the road, with a departure  time of 07.45 from Ekamai, Bangkok’s eastern Bus Terminal, 292bt per person. This may then continue on the 20 minutes to Laem Ngop Pier – check on boarding. If not, you take a songthaew taxi, 50bt per person, 300bt charter.

The return bus is also from Ao Thammachat at 14.30 but you can pick it up at Laem Ngop – confirm on booking. 

Also from Ekamai, you could take the night bus or very early morning public bus (Cherdchai) at 05.00 to Trat, 279bt per person and change at Saen Tung Junction for the last leg to Laem Ngop, 80bt for that songthaew taxi.  You should make either the 12.30 or 14.00 boat but have the 16.00 to fallback on if there is a delay.

By leaving at a more leisurely hour you need to stay the night in Trat. You can then travel down to the boats in the morning, again by songthaew taxi – your guesthouse will organise it for you.

Microbuses

There are also public microbuses run by Kohchang Bangkok Transport Company (290bt) which ply the Trat route to and from Ekamai and Morchit, Bangkok’s northern Bus Terminal. Use the early morning services and change at Saen Tung to make the boat connnections.

Other Bangkok Companies

In high season from 1/10/24 to 31/5/25, Boonsiri offers services from near Khao San Road at to 05.00 (11.45 on Koh Mak), 06.00 (via Had Lek border, 14.30) and 08.00 (15.45). Returns are using the 09.45 and 13.00 boats linking to the buses at the pier. It’s 1,100bt per person all-in.  Check for time changes in low season.

Seudamgo’s bus/minibus is at 05.00 from Bangkok (Khao San Road, Rama 9 and BKK Airport) to Laem Sok Pier for the 12.00 boat to Koh Mak (12.40) and Koh Kood at 13.20. The return is with the 14.30 boat from Koh Mak (13.50 from Koh Kood) for the bus around 15.30 – 1,100bt each way all-in. Note from 1/5/25 to 30/9/25, the return boat is at 12.30 from Koh Kood, so 13.10 at Koh Mak and 13.50 on the mainland for an earlier bus.

Koh Kut Express’s offers a bus/minibus is at 05.00 from Bangkok (BKK Airport 06.00) to Laem Sok Pier for the 11.30 speedboat to Koh Mak (12.00) and Koh Kood at 12.30. The return is with the 10.00 boat from Koh Mak (09.30 from Koh Kood) for the bus around 10.30 – 1,100bt each way all-in. Note from 1/6/25 to 30/9/25, this service does not run.

Island Taxis and Rentals

Koh Mak does have a limited island taxi or songthaew service, with a normal charge of 50bt per person, which increases after 22.00 to 100bt.

Provided you let them know, resorts will usually meet the boats with their own transport and similarly, drop you back at the appropriate pier at the end of your stay.

You can easily rent motorbikes from 250bt a day upwards, with a discount for multiple days. Bicycles go from 120bt a day but, if you really want to explore, pay the extra to get the very best one you can. Eco friendly golf carts are another fun option, with prices from 800bt to 1,000bt a day.
