Beach by Beach – Koh Chang Restaurants

Our Koh Chang restaurants Snippets take you round the island area by area. You can jump straight to any of them here:-

Dive in still further in those area sections and it takes you to detailed descriptions for that particular beach.

White Sand Beach – Koh Chang Restaurants

White Sand Beach restaurants cook up everything from classic Thai food at great prices to western choices including Italian (Ciao, Papa il Baffo, Bella Vita), Turkish (Alaturka) and even an Indian diner (Taste of India).

The area specialises in evening beach BBQs, with many resorts laying out tables and chairs on the sand where you can dine by the ocean – Koh Chang Lagoon, Sangtawan, Beach Tango and Sun and Soul, are popular choices.

Up on the street, these four serve up well prepared, well spiced Thai staples – the tiny Ta-Yay at the northern end, Kapow and Kin Dee about half way along, Tum Preang Praang by the entrance to Koh Chang Grand View. There’s also a nightly street market near to Kacha Resort, which pulls in the crowds for its tasty local snacks and at the southern end, you’ll find a few cheap diners near the Suvarnabhumi Burapa Bus office.

For Sunday roasts, steaks and English breakfasts look no further than the sports pub, Bentley’s or for western bistro style food combined with the Thai classics, 15 Palms is in a perfect spot down on the beach. Near to that, Buffalo Bill’s has steaks, burgers and lots of Thai dishes too (same owners as U Turn in Chai Chet). The retail outlet Wine Fans, far southern end, now offers a bistro menu with its wine choices, which are imported from 10 countries.

Finally, for coffees and teas served all ways, try Marin opposite Mac Resort or the 2nd branch across the front of Banpu and Chuhjai near Kacha, Sahngad (and its views) or indeed the cafes at the resorts, KC and Mac – they also have bakery items such as croissants, cakes, a range of sandwiches/paninis and one dish meals.

Recommended: Sun and Soul, Lagoon, Kapow, Alaturka (Turkish), 15 Palms (Western), Ciao (Italian), Marin

Klong Prao Beach

Klong Prao is home to some excellent Koh Chang restaurants, with the area around the central temple area its main focus.

Starting our round-up there, you can get top notch Thai at Kati Culinary, Issan at Bam, bakery and breakfasts at Crust, Italian at Toscana, Indian at Diamond Maharaja, Korean BBQ at Kohchang 7 and vegetarian at Naga. You could also nip down to Be Cozy within Blue Lagoon – Thai food mainly in a lovely setting over the canal.

For seafood, head over to the northern bank of the canal at Iyara and Phu Talay and while you’re nearby, why not try the eastern Thai specialities at Zhong Zi Pad Pad (by the open market area) or at Baan Ta Klua (in-house at Aana Resort).

Vanilla Sky, down the Sol Beach lane at this same northern end shortly before Zhong Zhi Pad Pad, is the chic beach choice, with Issan Rimray Chicken just behind it. On the other side of the canal, Palm Beach Rimray offers a full Thai menu at its great spot by the ocean –  to access it, head to the Santhiya Tree area.

By that turning to Santhiya Tree, you can eat more street style at the food court stalls –  the excellent Muslim one by the bridge has some amazing curries, spicy as they come. Or back at the temple area, look out out for the multitude of dishes in the trays at Raan Gaeng Som – two choices over rice at 50bt.

If you want a special treat, the luxury resort, Dewa has a lovely terrace by the beach and next door, Castaway at Dinso Resort also offers a very extensive menu at its diner on the sand.

In that same area on the sand, in-house at Lin’s followed by Mandalay, Pilot and Family are the long running beach restaurants – everything from seafood to Thai, western, cocktails and an all round laid back atmosphere.

Streetside near the turning to Dewa and Dinso, MangoTree gets good reviews for its Thai dishes, Bird is the cheap worker’s option nearby.

For a decent coffee, Marin has an outlet near the temple, with Dokyaa across the road by the Centara entrance road, Further on, there’s an Amazon branch at PTT, the petrol station and Charlotte opposite gives you another option.

Recommended: Kati Culinary, Iyara, Phu Talay, Zhong Zi Zi Pad Pad, Baan Ta Klua, Toscana, Family, Mandalay, Vanilla Sky, Mango Tree, Palm Beach Rimray, Charlotte

Bang Bao

Bang Bao is principally know for its large seafood restaurants on the pier – Ruan Thai and Chow Lay – where the full menu of fish, shellfish, prawns and squid are cooked in a myriad of mouth-watering Thai styles. Nongyim Seafood gives you a much smaller and home style alternative, whilst further down Jorpordee Cafe – it has rooms too – combines seafood with western style dishes in its lovely terrace setting over the sea.

Beyond the seafood and also on the pier, there’s also a few cheap and cheerful Thai diners squeezed in amongst the souvenir shops. Other small spots, nothing fancy but doing the trick, are found on the lane from the main road to the pier and up by the bridge near the school –  U Khao U Nam the stand-out.

On the northern side of the bay, Cliff Cottage, bistro style and next door, Hill House with its Italian slant, give you a couple of options. On the southern side, Pipin Cafe is a great little spot for breakfast and other simple Thai menu staples, whilst Rasta View, Thai and western, has become a long running favourite

For a decent coffee, head back to the pier to Delight, cafe and bakery, which also offers food on its tiny terrace at the back or Lazy Hours, another stylish spot. Viewtalay Cafe, located at the point where the pier opens out to the sea, has boat watching as an added extra.

Recommended: Nongyim Seafood, Pipin Cafe, U Khao U Nam, Delight, Cliff Cottage

Lonely Beach

Eating out in the backpacker and party area of Lonely Beach has improved considerably over the last few years , with a good choice of restaurants and in-house resort diners offering everything from seafood to fusion, bistro style, cheap Thai and western breakfasts.

In the so called LB Complex, which sits between the beach proper and the village, Por Par and Coco serve up a mix of seafood and Thai staples on the ocean front. Down on the beach itself, it’s hard to beat the excellent hang-out spot, Nature – Thai, western, drinks, people watching.

Moving into the village by the bridge, Dang Seafood and Oneka have always been reliable choices for straightforward Thai food done well, with seafood their speciality. The Issan diner Nanny – this a 2nd outlet to their main one in Bailan – sits between them. As you continue up the main street past Soi 1 and Soi 2, Lek’s Kitchen and Bamboo opposite give you some cheaper alternatives.

Oasis up the hill on Soi 3, Lonely Beach Pool Resort and Knife and Fork at Magic Garden (both at the southern end) are all deservedly popular in-house resort diners. The Godmother on the corner of Soi 2 opened in 2026 and offers a varied menu of bistro style, vegetarian and Thai dishes.

At the far end just as you exit the village,  Easy Life serves up bistro style too – home baked breads and hoem cured meats, breakfasts, sandwiches, baguettes, burgers and an evening menu of classic western dishes.  Next door, the Spanish owned, Tropical Nest also broke ground in 2026 with its tapas menu and beyond them. For something a bit different, seek out the fusion menu at the boutique resort, Nest Sense.

By the sea, Roxy Bar at Warapura is the area’s most stylish spot – coffee and drinks (and food), very chilled, great. On the same stretch of rocks, the new boutique resort, Sunstone, boasts a fabulous outdoor restaurant deck – open all day.

And finally, you’ll have no trouble getting breakfast at any time of day in Lonely Beach, with Cafe Del Sunshine down Soi 1, our favourite.

Recommended: Roxy Bar at Warapura, Easy Life, Tropical Nest, Cafe Del Sunshine, Nature Beach, The Godmother, Coco, Dang Seafood, Nanny

Kai Bae Beach – Koh Chang Restaurants

The narrow main street of Kai Bae Beach provides us with a terrific concentration of places to eat.

First up, with their ice boats out front each evening, you can pick and choose from  a number of seafood BBQ restaurants such as Baan Kai Bae and Friend Seafood. Jostling for space with them, you’ll find a very popular Mexican diner, El Barrio (now with taco offshoot Taqueria), several Italian offerings including Mordi e Fuggi, Sapori and Little Italy, Greek at El Greco or Papa’s, Japanese at Kane by Knotto or Mediterranean style at Wine Gallery.

There’s a great Indian too at India Chef, a hip bistro by the sea, Cabana and a terrific diner, Seaweed, inland near the waterfall.  Meanwhile, Khao Kwan, (Yaa from the now closed Blue Lagoon Cooking School), brings her unique take on classic Thai dishes, all sumptuously presented.

Throw in a couple of cheap food courts, plenty of cheap Thai such as Areeya, Enjoy Life and Happy; noodles and hot pot; vegetarian at Tofu Kitchen and Poke Bowl; pub menus at Morgan and Fin or burgers at Smash Burger; bakery at Papa or sandwiches at Aroi Aroi; one of Koh Chang’s best coffee brews at Fig Cafe or try The Mount with its views; exclusive dining at the four major resorts (The Chill, Awa, The Retreat and Gajapuri) and we think we can safely say, Kai Bae Beach restaurants have you covered.

Recommended: El Barrio, Little Italy, The Chill, Wine Gallery, Fig Cafe, Khao Kwan, Kane by Knotto, Friend Seafood, Infinity (Food Court), Cabana

Bang Bao Beach

Hat Sai Noi, the smaller beach just after Bang Bao is great for its beach cafes. You can lose an afternoon at  Ido Ido or try the hip cafe at Indie Beach – coffee, smoothies, Thai or western choices. Between Hat Sai Noi and Bang Bao Beach itself, Rasta Chill has as lovely spot too on the mini headland, offering one dish Thai food and pizzas.

Once at Bang Bao Beach itself, you can choose between the resorts’ restaurants or a couple of dedicated diners, Rim Ray and Siam Kitchen. All offer similar menus of standard Thai, though The Beach has more of a fusion style. In the evenings, the seafood BBQs appear along the front, with Klong Kloi Cottage the best of the bunch.

There are also a few cheap and cheerful places on the sandy tracks behind – I Aom for Thai, Mr A for coffee, breakfasts, pizzas or Pizza House for solely that.

For a change, you could also splash out a little and dine at one of the plusher resorts like Chivapuri or Chaipura’s lovely wooden restaurant over the creek.

Recommended: Klong Kloi Kitchen, Siam Kitchen, Chivapuri Resort, Ido Ido, Pizza House

Chai Chet

At the northern end opposite the bars, Gloy is one of the island’s best cheap diners, very popular with the local workers for lunchtime quick one dish over rice style cooking. Next door, the 389bt “cook at your table” Korean BBQ fires up in the evenings.

In the same area, the expanded U Turn is as popular as ever, pulling in the crowds with its seafood, western and handful of Khmer choices. A few hundred metres further on, Anne’s nearby specialises in English breakfasts.

In the middle section, a selection of cheap diners (Siam Kitchen et al) sit on the bend before you reach Neighbour Koh Chang, the renovated VJ Plaza. This has still not really taken off with only a limited selection of not very busy restaurants – Amigos (Tex-Mex), Bella Ciao Pizza and Nellie O’Changs (pub food).

The southern end of Chai Chet has a great road-side seafood restaurant at Signature or the three major resorts on the sand all offer a nightly BBQ, with Flora i Talay’s the pick of the bunch.

Finally,  one of the best Italian restaurants on the island, Marco sits opposite Flora, offering pasta, pizza in a friendly small taverna style.

Recommended: Marco, Signature, U Turn, Gloy

Klong Son

The first area down the coast after Ao Sapparot Ferry Pier, Klong Son, has plenty of cheap roadside Thai restaurants for noodles, one dish over rice made to order, that style  – Khun Tee’s is the most popular.  Head on into the centre of the village and for in the evenings for take home, you can pick up bags of curry, grilled chicken and so on.

In the Blue Haven Bay private villa development, the bistros The Beach Club and Shambala, both down by the sea, one in the main section, one in the marina section, have a few more western alternatives than elsewhere in Klong Son. You can also use the swimming pools if eating there.

On the road to the waterfall, you’ll find a hidden Thai gem, at Blue Blues Cafe – curries made from fresh pastes, delicately spiced salads, coconut juice, wine and cold beers.

Finally, there are a couple of coffee shops at the northern end – Amazon at the back of the PTT gas station is always busy. Down the soi opposite, Eddy and Thy Cafe offers a wide array of breakfast options, coffee and shakes as well as a very short, simple lunch menu – all served in the lovely little garden.

Recommended: Blue Blues Cafe, Beach Club, Eddy and Thy

Pearl Beach

Scout around in Pearl Beach and you’ll find more than enough interesting choices to keep you happy.

First up, if you crave western food, then Little European will hit the spot. It sits on the bend as you enter the area – goulash, steaks (pepper sauce), schnitze, lots of potatoes of course, no Thai food.

Slowly but surely, an open air food court is now developing near the camping grounds, with the initial diners including some simple Thai diners, an Indian and one dedicated to seafood. Sao’s by the Beach is a more permanent looking affair – standard Thai staples, western choices too. A little further on, roadside, you can also get cheap eats (noodles, chicken over rice) at the two places still clinging on at the original food court.

Down by the sea, Saffron on the Sea, has a charming terrace setting on which to enjoy its varied menu of excellent Thai (fusion style) and western dishes. Meanwhile,Everflow, hidden away behind the foliage on the side street by the Honda garage, is a tiny vegetarian and vegan cafe – well worth a stop, it’s a one person operation so things take time, that’s part of its charm.

Another excellent Thai choice at the end of the village is Jae Pai-Roh, specialising in seafood – great value, well presented and squarely aimed at the locals, always a good sign.

Big C carries a good selection of fresh produce, bakery products and a range of daily pre-cooked items such as chicken, pork, fish and prawns – for those, it’s best to get there early as  they sell out fast in high season.

Recommended: Saffron on the Sea, Everflow, Jae Pai-Roh

Bailan Beach

Up in Bailan, you’ll find a decent enough choice of local cheap Thai restaurants along the main street including Coconut Cafe, Pah Jae (noodle soup), Tamarin (Khmer slant), J & K, Song Phi Nong and Nanny (Issan) – the last two are the pick of the bunch.

What you don’t expect to stumble on is a full blown Korean restaurant but head down to the bungalows at Kohchang 7  (Korean owned) and they offer a wide reaching menu of all the signature classics – recommended.

On the sand at the southern end, the Italian owned cafe, Lisca Beach (open in high season only), knocks out homemade pizzas, pasta and the occasional paella – a great spot to while away the hours by the sea.

Within the resorts, Cocoon, streetside at the nothern end, offers a French bistro style menu, pool table and pétanque too. Trattoria Vanara, meanwhile, is exactly that with a wide ranging Italian menu of anti pasti and pasta dishes.

Recommended: Song Phi Nong, Nanny, Trattoria Vanara, Lisca Beach, Kohchang 7, Cocoon

East Coast, South East

The east coast of Koh Chang is home to yet more excellent Koh Chang restaurants, ranging from cheap local affairs to wonderfully located seafood diners.

Shortly after the ferry Pier, Ao Sapparot View has coffee, shakes, coconut juices and great views – a nice spot for an early stop if touring this side of the island.

In Dan Khao, about 3kms further on, the in-house diner Si Daeng at Amber Sands Resort gets good press for its Thai (Issan their speciality) and western dishes.

Continuing down the coast, look out for the Issan restaurant with its chickens roasting on the spit out front; it’s deservedly popular with Thai workers coming out for lunch from Dan Mai, which is itself another kilometre or so round the corner. Fueng Fah next door, its restaurant up above the road, is also popular.

Dan Mai has a good range of local restaurants such as the noodle soup diner opposite the hospital or similar opposite the police station and the Issan style one at the turning to the local waterfall – look out the for the hanging baskets. The pick of the bunch, though, is on the left hand side as you head out of town at Ban Chor Chamuang – the menu has a nice slant towards local Trat Province dishes.

Another few kilometers and shortly before Than Mayom Waterfall, you pass the tiny but excellent Rim Le Kitchen with its little salas by the sea – full Thai menu, popular with Thai weekenders.

Past Than Mayom Waterfall, there are two coffee shop/diners which sit within 100 metres of each other. Baan Kafae grows its own coffee on Koh Chang and serves that alongside a small menu of Thai dishes and sweets. Across the way, Ronnie’s Coconut Organic Garden concentrates more on the food.

Vegetarian and vegan dishes are the order of the day at boutique resort and detox centre, The Spa Koh Chang, whilst down in the far south east – Salak Phet, Salak Khok and Chek Bae – you’ll find a selection of the island’s top seafood restaurants (listed first in the recommendations below).

Finally, if you go the whole hog and end up at Long Beach, the only restaurant there at Long Beach Bungalows  has a prime location overlooking the sand – excellent for cheap Thai food.

Recommended: Salak Phet Seafood, Salak Khok Seafood, Krua Pa Jeaw (Salak Khok), Rommai Talay Seafood (Chek Bae), Spa Koh Chang, Ban Kafae, Ban Chor Chamuang, Rim Le Kitchen
