Ao Suan Yai Beach Resorts and Bungalows
Starting our resorts round-up on Ao Suan Yai Beach, the principal places to stay on this lovely stretch of beach are Seavana Beach Resort and Koh Mak Resort, which between them stretch all the way from the central wooden pier to the southern end.
Seavana Resort, one of Koh Mak’s very best resorts, offers 4 types of room with their deluxe seaview starting at 5,700bt, their seafront suite at 6,500bt per night. Koh Mak Resort, next door, is at 3,600bt for standard beachfront and up to 6,750bt for its deluxe family suite.
Heading the other way from the pier, Prompakdee Koh Mak Resort offers a nice choice of a/c rooms at 2,250bt for a double, whilst still further north from them, Happy Days, has its own selection of a/c bungalows, all uniquely constructed from coconut tree wood, at around 2,500bt a night for standard and 4,000bt for the family.
Carrying on down the sand, the beach remains undeveloped, great for a peaceful walk as the sun sets or also to seek out that track to the remote and untouched Turtle Beach in the far north.

Cococape Resort has all manner of themed rooms and villas ranging from 2,750bt to 10,000bt per night in peak season.
One of Koh Mak’s best luxury boutique resorts, Mira Montra Resort, is the only resort on Ao Pra beach itself, about 10 minutes walk along the sand from Cococape. By The Sea
On the cape at the southern end of Ao Suan Yai, large selection of fan and a/c bungalows and villas, even a converted boat, on the seafront and around a tiered swimming pool. Restaurant with western food, own pier with bar, boat trips to Koh Pii for excellent snorkelling. Can walk around the corner to Ao Pra beach or if tide in your favout, to Ao Suan Yai. Ao Pra Beach next door. Charges 200bt entry fee (includes 80bt drink) for non-guests.
Ao Suan Yai and Ao Pra – The Area
By the pier on Ao Suan Yai, Koh Mak Resort has its I Talay restaurant and bar and there’s a small ticket office and minimart. The western style Pineapple Cafe sits at the back behind I Talay.
Thai Sabai Bar, in front of Prompakdee, is great for sunset drinks, snacks on the beach and indeed, from time to time, full-on parties. Meanwhile, Day Beds at Seavana, with its restaurant, bar, pool table and beachside location, is also very popular.
Without transport, you can easily just hang out in and around your resort and this would be part of Ao Suan Yai’s attraction – peace, quiet and privacy. On the other hand, it’s easy to find a taxi, rent a motorbike (250bt a day) or the walk to Ao Kao Beach is only about 15 to 20 minutes.
Behind the Beach
On a parallel road north to the one which runs behind Koh Mak Resort and Seavana, Koh Mak Organic Farm offers a full menu, with the fruit and veg coming from their garden. This road joins up with that other one at the bottom of the hill (villas, Good Time Resort, Islanda) which overlooks the beach. You’ll also find a Japanese diner, 12 Bars and a minimart here.
From the Hill to Ao Kao Beach
If you choose the hill for accommodation, it’s an easy walk from there to the restaurant strip on Ao Kao for more dining choices and a bit more action, though do take a torch.
On the hill down to Ao Kao Beach, Art House offers live music and a laid back atmosphere.
Ao Phra Beach
Ao Pra Beach is on its own, so if staying at Mira Montra Resort, do note there are no other restaurants or bars nearby. It is walkable at night (with a good torch) over to Ao Kao, 15 to 20 minutes or you can use a taxi. After 22.00, the taxi charge increases from 50bt to 100bt per person.
