Koh Chang ferries are supplied by just one company, Ferry Koh Chang.
The services take foot passengers, 2 wheel and 4 wheel vehicles and microbuses but large tour buses cannot travel onto the island.
The Koh Chang ferries run every day of the year as scheduled, with only the very occasional cancellation due to high waves.
At peak times, such as the New Year holidays, the Songkran festival and the May Day long weekend, extra ferries are added to the timetables given below. However, at these times, you will still experience very long queues to get on and off the island.
Trat Ferry (formerly known as Centerpoint) has shut down.

Ferry Koh Chang – Koh Chang Ferries
Ferry Koh Chang leaves from Ao Thammachat Pier on the mainland to arrive at Ao Sapparot Pier on the north east coast of Koh Chang. Ao Thammachat Pier is the nearest pier to the Bangkok highway and some 10km from Laem Ngop, a small coastal town, which over time has become the generic name given for all the piers.
Ferry Koh Chang operates several different sized boats, with the smallest taking 25 minutes and the larger ones around 35 minutes. The first ferry in either direction is at 06.45 and the last at 18.30. In theory, they run every hour but in reality, they are in a continual loop all day leaving when full. Times will change on public holidays, starting earlier, finishing later.
On board, there is a refreshments area, toilets and plenty of seating spaces upstairs.
All our private transfers, whether from Suvaranabhumi (BKK), Don Mueang (DMK) or Trat (TDX) Airports, Bangkok hotels or the Cambodian borders use Ferry Koh Chang.
The microbus/bus service operated by Suvarnabhumi Burapa Co also heads to Ao Thammachat Pier as do the share minibuses from Trat Airport.
The last flight of the day, PG307, which lands at Trat Airport at 17.15 (Bangkok Airways winter timetable 27/10/24 to 31/3/25), makes the ferry, no need to worry.

After Hours – Koh Chang Ferries
If you are unable to get to the the pier before the ferry has stopped running at 18.30 – late flight arrivals to BKK, work commitments in Bangkok etc. – we can organise a private transfer connecting to a private wooden passenger boat to the island and final transfer from the pier to your resort. Please contact us for a quotation but it must be booked in advance and with the private transfer also.
Private Overnight Transfers
Our private transfers also pick up late night, early morning from Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang Airports, so you can travel through the night for the first Koh Chang ferry in the morning at 06.30. Remember, however, if you arrive at the pier in the dead of night, there is very little happening.
Trat Ferry – Koh Chang Ferries
As of November 2024, Trat Ferry has closed down
This ferry leaves from Centerpoint Pier on the mainland and arrives on Koh Chang at Centerpoint (Cabana) Pier in Dan Khao. It’s about 3 km further down the east coast than Ao Sapparot Pier, the pier used by Ferry Koh Chang.
Centerpoint Pier (mainland) is about 5km from Laem Ngop and therefore nearer to Trat City, which is itself inland some 18km away.
Trat Ferry operates older boats, which take around 45 minutes to Koh Chang or 55 minutes from Koh Chang. It’s a service mainly used by locals coming from the east and south east coasts of the island and is rarely used by tourists. The first ferry and last ferries are at 07.15 and 17.20 from the mainland and 06.00 and 16.00 from the island.
On board, there is a refreshments area, basic toilets and plenty of upstairs seating spaces.
Trat Ferry is much more open to the elements than Ferry Koh Chang, a welcome bonus in the dry months as Ferry Koh Chang can get very hot even during a short crossing.
Laem Ngop Pier
Laem Ngop itself is a sleepy place 18km or so out of Trat, which has its own Laem Ngop Pier, also sometimes referred to as Krom Luang. This is used by the speedboats and a wooden goods boat heading to Koh Mak and Koh Wai, see Koh Mak Speedboats and Ferry – Companies and Prices and Getting to Koh Wai for all the timetable details.
You may end up visiting Laem Ngop to get an extension on your tourist visa at the local Immigration Office, which is near the port area. There’s a copy and passport photo shop by the local Police Station.
Taxis from Trat, Taxis on Koh Chang – Koh Chang Ferries
Share Taxis or songthaews as they are known, run to and from Trat town or Trat Bus Station, which is a kilometre out from the city itself. Cost is 50bt to 60bt per person, but they only leave when full. If you want to go quicker, expect the rate to rise.
On Koh Chang, songthaews are lined up to meet the ferry and transport you to the different beaches. All their prices and information is here. Bear in mind too that they will not leave unless full.
