Mid-range resorts on Koh Chang are priced between 2,000bt and 4,000bt and are found across all the main beaches.
In our latest round-up, we have picked out our own mid range favourites, which will give you an excellent guide to the best good value resorts on the island, suitable for both couples or families.
We list these in beach order moving down the west coast.
Grandview Resort – White Sand Beach
At the southern end of White Sand Beach, Grandview is a well established mid range resort offering standard bungalows, cottages, duplex deluxe and family rooms.
All a/c rooms are ensuite with balconies or a terrace and come equipped with a fridge, tea and coffee facilities and WiFi. The design is safe rather than particularly eye-catching but the interiors are spacious, light and clean.
The accommodation itself is nicely laid out in well kept gardens, with the large ocean-facing swimming pool the resort’s central feature. A buffet breakfast is served daily at the in-house restaurant, whilst you can choose from full menu, Thai and western, at lunch and dinner. Grandview also has an in house spa and gym.
Though right on the sea, you cannot really swim in this section as it is rocky underfoot. To get to the best beach area, you walk a few minutes either down the sand or if high tide, down the road. White Sand Beach is the most developed on the island, with everything you need from restaurants, bars and shops to banks or massage just outside the resort’s door.
Prices for the standard room are 2,400bt, garden villa 2,800bt up to seaview deluxe at 4,320bt.
Flora i Talay – Chai Chet Beach
Flora i Talay is a deservedly popular resort of stylish ochre-coloured bungalows and villas laid out in several long rows by the sea. Two swimming pools, a restaurant and bar area complete the picture.
Finished in brushed concrete throughout, the a/c rooms have double beds, fridges, LCD TVs, WiFi and outdoor seating areas as standard. The ensuite bathrooms have that same cool look and feel, with showers and baths available in some of the options.
Located at the southern end of Chai Chet, Flora i Talay sits on one of the best beaches on Koh Chang – lovely golden sands, shallow blue waters, just perfect. The in-house restaurant serves a buffet breakfast, full menu and a nightly BBQ, whilst you can watch the sun go down on the huge bamboo loungers at the front of the bar.
It’s just a short stroll across the street for some other cheap Thai diners, the excellent Nong Bua Seafood is next door or you can head up to the shops and other restaurant choices at VJ Plaza.
For the back cottages, prices start as low as 1,700bt. In the mid range, garden view and sea view bungalows are between 2,000bt and 3,500bt. If you want to splash out, the handful of pool villas are 8,000bt upwards.
Noren Resort – Klong Prao Beach – Mid Range Resorts
The Swedish owned Noren Resort sits by the road in the centre of Klong Prao. A clean, compact, family friendly resort, it has just 15 bungalows set in and around a central swimming pool.
All double rooms come with king size beds, air conditioning, ensuite bathrooms, safes and fast WiFi as standard. For 3 adults, a sofa bed is included in a larger space, whilst for families, 2 double beds or 2 bedrooms are available.
The in-house restaurant offers buffet breakfast (as part of the room price) and a full menu for lunch. In the evenings, you can wander down the main street to top-notch choices such as Kati and Tonsai for dinner.
For the beach, it’s very easy to cut down the back way to the sand, 10 minutes walk at most. Noren Resort is noted for its service, with the staff and the resort owner only too happy to help with any questions and problems.
Doubles start at 2,700bt, mid range bungalows at 3,300bt and the family special at 4,200bt.

With a terrific beachside location at the southern end of Kai Bae Beach, KB Resort is one of the best mid range resorts on the island.
The resort offers a vast selection of accommodation from standard rooms in the three storey hotel block to cottages in the garden or deluxe villas by the sea. Triples and larger families rooms top things off. It’s all set in peaceful well-tended tropical gardens, with a two tiered swimming pool at the rear and a large restaurant, open all day with an evening BBQ, on the sand.
The rooms themselves feature queen size beds, ensuite shower bathrooms, WiFi and an outdoor terrace.

Kai Bae Beach Resort – Kai Bae Beach
Kai Bae Beach Resort sits literally next door to KB Resort and gives it a very good run for its money as one of Koh Chang’s premier mid range choices.
Like its neighbour, Kai Bae Beach Resort has upgraded and modernized over the last few years, renovating its existing bungalows, adding a hotel block at the rear, a swimming pool and deluxe villas at the front.
Their cheapest options are the hotel block rooms, which sit over three floors, with king size beds, a/c and ensuite bathrooms and balconies. Move into the gardens, you’ll find stylish burnt-umber bungalows laid out in uneven rows, with more of the same on the beach, some with a feature roof terrace. Beach rooms housed in in a single storey block give you another choice, whilst deluxe and family villas complete the picture.
The restaurant is open all day serving up a buffet breakfast, followed by lunch and dinner with a full menu, Thai and western and an evening BBQ. The vilage is a few minutes walk away.

Bailan Beach Resort – Kai Bae Beach
Bailan Beach Resort sits on the oceanfront at the northern end of of its namesake village down the west coast.
From small backpacker beginnings a decade ago, the resort now sports a wide selection of garden and seaview bungalows, together with rooms in a 2 storey hotel block at the rear of the property. The design is resolutely standard with tiled floors, white walls, dark wooden furniture and plastic terrace chairs. However, the peaceful location and laid back atmosphere more than compensate for this, so warranting its long held reputation as an excellent good value resort.
The rooms come with double beds, ensuite, a/c, fridge, TV and WiFi. The seaview rooms have additonal sofas.
To the side of the resort, you’ll find a small beach but, due to the rocks underfoot, it’s tricky to swim unless high tide. Still, the coast is perfect to explore by kayak, with the resort renting them out by the hour, 1/2 day or full day. Meanwhile, for the proper sand and sea experience, you can easily head to Lonely Beach or Bang Bao Beach, 5 minutes and 15 minutes respectively by songthaew taxi. The rooms themselves consist of either standard doubles or seaview villas, the latter finished in wood panelling, Each comes with a queen size bed, a/c, ensuite bathroom, safe, TV, fridge, WiFi and an outdoor terrace.

Standard rooms are priced at 2,000bt, the sea villas from 2,500bt up to 5,000bt depending on its position.
Tropical Hideaway – Bang Bao Beach (Klong Goi)
The secluded Tropical Hideaway sits directly on the sand at the very end of Bang Bao Beach, literally the last spot on the west coast.
Accommodation is comprised of superior, deluxe or seaview bungalows, each constructed in the round, topped with thatch-roofs and finished throughout, exterior and interior, in brushed concrete.
Inside the rooms, things are equally stylish and uncluttered, with double beds centrally positioned to maximise the a/c space, wood finishings contrasting with the cool concrete, ensuite bathrooms and an outdoor terrace at the front. TVs, WiFi and fridge are standard.
Tropical Hideaway does not have a swimming pool, but the sea, its shallow waters perfect for swimming, laps the shore just steps from any of the bungalows. An excellent restaurant, built once more in the round in the same brushed concrete and thatch, offers breafkast, lunch and dinner. You can also wander along the beach to the other resorts and restaurants.
Superior rooms start at 2,000bt, deluxe sea view at 3,000bt.
Sunrise Beach Resort – Dan Khao Beach, east coast
Sunrise Beach Resort is a small, mid range resort on the east coast at Dan Khao.
Formerly known as The Souk, the resort re-opened in 2018 with a much needed freshness but also retaining the laid back charm for which it was so well known and liked.
The old whitewashed cabanas, built in the round with their thatch roofs, have been revamped, whilst a few larger, modern family bungalows have been constructed at the rear. To combine these two sections, a brand new spectacular swimming pool now sits pride of place in the middle, complete with decking and a sunken bar come service area.
All rooms have double beds, a/c, fridge, TV and WiFi. Bathrooms are ensuite.
Food is available all day or you can wander down the beach to the other nearby resorts, Amber Sands and Serenity or indeed next door to The Souk, now a diner and cocktail bar only.
You should bear in mind that the red sand on this coast is grittier and rougher than the finer, golden variety of the beaches on the west coast. Similarly, though this area is great for kayaking, you don’t normally take a dip in the sea here.
You can rent motorbikes at Sunrise Beach to head to White Sand Beach or songthaew taxis are available as needed.
Beachfront bungalows are priceed at 2,600bt a night, the family size ones good value at 3,600bt.
